I actually just became legitimately abreast of SOPA about thirty minutes ago and I just wanted to pass the word along. I'm doing my modest efforts to spread awareness and action where i have the means to. Essentially there's a law the government is attempting to pass to cut down on copyright infringement. They would then be allowed to shut down domain names and paypal accounts and the like all for different forms of "Copyright Infringement", which at it's most blatant form is me using someones work [TV show, music] on my website...at it's simplest it could be a comment from a user that contains a link to a website with something they deem to be infringement. Thus shutting down my site. Here is a link that has better summation skills than I do.

Architecture, Art, and Well-Being

Right around the moments when i tipped a quarter of a century in age my fascinations became more visceral and more insatiable, and my most prominent fascination has always been with aesthetics and appearance. As an adolescent i found joy in creating art although i wasn't masterful at it, in the traditional form; but i could certainly recognize "masterful" and the mood altering presence that it had. My elder brother would draw - what i then considered masterpieces - in robot-esque fashion with very little wasted motion and it blew my mind almost every time. That feeling of visual utopia is what i woke up for every day, and although i couldn't create it with a pencil [not like I envisioned at least] i would strive everyday with whatever resources i had at my disposal to create it with my appearance, fashion after all is an aesthetic. But as I got older i learned that was only a manifestation of me attempting to nourish not only my well-being through visual therapy but whomever i came in contact with as well. You can alter the mood of others simply with your presence, you indeed are a part of the ambiance. After reading books like Tipping Point and gaining a deeper understanding on the triggers that are pulled mentally with either disparaging or comforting imagery I've gained such an appreciation for ambiance. People often wonder why they are able to work better in a bookstore or Starbucks than they are at home, sure some of it has to do with distractions, but there is a portion of it also has to do with visual stimulation of a constantly changing environment.

Now, on to why we are here in the first place. I found this video and it helped me understand what i had been trying to say [if summarized]. As you can see in the title the video is about the effect architecture and art have on our well-being. I really believe in it, close friends of mine [readers of the blog are close friends too] have heard me lament about the lack of artistry in the American environment. Nonetheless if you have the patience sit through this video, i would advise you to do so without other distractions, I think you will come away with intrigue at bare minimum. The accents seem to dissolve as you get a grasp of the speakers so please don't be turned off by that. Simply view the video and then reflect upon your well-being.

Stamping the Test of Time

The United States Postal Service has made a decision to abandon their condition that an individual must be deceased in order to appear on a stamp. So it's open season for all those great living stars and starlets, kind of. The USPS is taking suggestions via FaceBook, Twitter, and of course their own website. All of the information supplied up to this point is perfectly agreeable.

I found a poll on cbsnews.com [which they also tweeted] where they extended a virtual ear to the public to hear our thoughts on which national figure should be chosen. The candidates included people like Oprah, Steve Jobs, and Neil Armstrong - which you probably saw if you clicked the link - all of which i think are in line for a lion's share of recognition. The results of the poll however show the runaway leader as Lady Gaga with 76% of the votes, the current silver medalist is Bob Dylan with 8%. To bring this into a more concentrated focus, there are 19 people to choose from. This got me thinking about who voyages across the internet and whether polls like this are effective in identifying what Americans want.

It's paradoxical because it's hard to match similarities between Lady Gaga and stamp collectors/users. Much of the younger demographic uses stamps scarcely, and I'm operating off the premise that this is the demographic that thwarted Lady Gaga so far up this poll. I've seen two stamp club meetings in my life so I'll admit i lack a sufficient reserve to pull from, but each time every single participant was - or looked - older than the age of 40. Also when it comes to sending "snail mail" it appears a person's visits to the Post Office is almost a direct correlation with their age. So if you're the USPS, do you need to become relevant with a younger, well-traveled internet audience? Or do you need to find ways to actually reach the possible buyers who could benefit from this new opportunity?

I think this scenario expressly identifies the problem that faces so many long-standing businesses and organizations. Without gross adaptation and massive overhaul, the only way they can succeed [not survive] is if their patrons advance technologically and evolve their ways of operating and absorbing information. For instance if a newspaper has lost a significant chunk of it's subscriptions, they would suffer very little if all of those subscriptions started consuming the paper online; they would still have an advertising draw significant enough to sustain and grow the company. They would have the capital to attract and retain mavens in that field of work, and also expand with innovative practices.

This small adjustment by the USPS could turn out to be a pivotal move for them, I'm curious to see how it shakes out and what answers we can learn from them.

The Rook Brand

I try not to prognosticate success but, what a brand! Sometimes you can see what makes people special in less time than it takes to make rice, minute rice. I went into a trance the entire duration of the video and that's how i knew it was worth sharing. This is a video about the Rook Brand which is built by two gentleman, one of them, the artist Joe King, has worked with several brands that were already known to me although he wasn't. Some of the popular ones you may be able to reference include, Crooks and Castles, Billabong, Obey, and Freshjive. However the point of this post is i like the concentration of the brand, they take a lot of cues from subcultures and eclectic brands, that resonated with me because i consider my self to be - by nature - a subculture product with mainstream versatility, and i'm sure that would be ideal for their brand. To be able to have subculture respect usually indicates authenticity, keeping that while simultaneously influencing mainstream is so rare i would stop just short of calling it divine. Hopefully you can now better visualize what i saw when i watched this video, aside from the awesomely startling art and presentation.

Foreign Rehab

The abbreviation of Amy Winehouse's life enticed my usually dormant feelings to snake their way out of the basket. I'm hesitant to say, initially the news made "sense", but after fixing my ill-informed and conditioned reflexes it didn't make any sense at all. Amy's troubles took place in the tabloids as well as television, that's no secret. It however makes me wonder about the environment that some stars with opportunistic lives operate in. Now before i swan-dive into the Grand Canyon with this beautiful mind that i have, i would be remiss if i didn't mention that at this minute the cause of her death is unknown. This is going to be a twisting and winding piece so tarry with me as i am returning from an unintentional sabbatical.

Logic tells me that it should be reasonably difficult for a grammy winning songstress to commit destructive behavior on a consistent basis. For anyone unfamiliar with Amy Winehouse, she had a hard time overcoming some drug abuse issues that became known just as quickly as she did, around 2006 for many of us. To make this point simple [This alone may be my platform's undoing] I will say that humans generally consider drug abuse bad, generally care about each other, and particularly care about people that can make money. Winehouse had a camp -- any Grammy winning artist has a "camp" -- how was this group unable to keep her from a revolving door of rehab visits? We all understand that adults make their own decisions but stars tend to have less freedom and tend to have their lives more controlled than the rest of us. Now factor in family members who more than likely realized she was the cash cow of the family, how do you let that self-implode? I do not underestimate the power of addiction but her legacy wreaks of enablers.

I've read a little bit about the struggle of addiction with cigarette smokers, and it is well-understood that smokers tend to either have or have signs of depression, so often times it's equally as important to deal with the mental state of the person as it is to deal with the nicotine addiction. Here i'll put a little excerpt from the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1990, "In a study of 3,200 randomly selected adults, of those who had at some time in their lives been diagnosed with a major psychiatric disorder, 74% had smoked at some point, 14% had quit. Of those who had never been diagnosed with a psychiatric problem, 53% had smoked at some point in their life and 31% managed to quit... about 80% of alcoholics smoke... about 90% of schizophrenics smoke." With that information i extrapolated it to drug use [I could be wrong] and it leads me to the conclusion that Winehouse was troubled further than what we may know. However, with many resources it seems she would be able to get exceptional help, and that help would get to the root instead of continuing to trim the limbs. Again I am mystified.

Lastly I will say, is there anything that we can do as bystanders or fans? We know that celebrities have an effect on us but is there any way we can affect them? Maybe there isn't, but I think we all play a part. Do we make it comfortable for the drug culture to exist, or do we realistically help prevent what we can? Those are just questions to think about in case there is a way we can help.

The only thing left at this point is the epilogue. Amy Winehouse - loved to sing, but was sent to the wrong rehab.

My Top 5 Albums of 2010

I'm back with my 4th installment of my personal best albums for the year passed. Once again here are the rules:

1. The albums are selected from what i have personally heard
2. There is no need to argue because my opinion is what i deem to be the total after tax, it's nothing else to add.

This was a good year for music's sake, at least as far as I am concerned. Before I delve into the list i have to do the obligatory honorable mentions. J.Cole finished the year so strong with his Friday Night Lights mixtape [Correct, I count mixtapes as they are the new albums.] and followed up on the momentum his labelmate Wale's mixtape More About Nothing. I am utterly grateful for Kanye's GOOD Friday series, that's an album worth of material and it keep me musically fed all fourth quarter. And my last honorable mention is Kenneth Whalum III, simply phenomenal, see post below.

5. Drake - Thank Me Later
As amazing as i think this album is there is one deficiency, i didn't feel like he finished quite a few songs. He delivered one verse on many of the songs [See "Light Up", "Up All Night", "Unforgettable", "Miss Me"]. The one thing that i feel Drake does better than a lot of artists, he doesn't waste any words. All of his bars are hearty, very little cliche statments or metaphors/similies that don't really mean anything. The album is relatively personal and you feel like you get a grasp of his journey, even dating back before the music; tidbits that shaped Aubrey's well-rounded outlook on life which he fights to hold on to after his introduction to the fastest life he's ever seen. I would be remiss if i didn't mention the versatility of what he does, a major part of the reason he instantaneously strolled to the top; he sings with acceptable precision and is easily one of the better new rhyme-sayers. He's that rare.

4. Kid Cudi - Man On The Moon II
I hate to repeat myself so I'm going to try to highlight some points i possibly left out of my Cudi post late last year. Cudi does a LOT with his music, it's quite versatile. One of the things that i like about his album is that it's really an adventure. Artist development is very hard to find these days, but so is album development. Cudi's albums always feel like stories that you can follow and not just a collection of songs. When you can get in the booth and take people where you want them to go and not where they want to go, that's special. Also i had to give him credit -- which often eludes him from what i hear -- his songs tend to have quite a bit of a message, sans the ones where he goes on his "stoner" binge.

3. Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives
I was mildly surprised at how mammoth this album was. Now when i say that, don't think for one second-hand on the watch that i didn't assume it was going to be good. I just had no way to predict it would be this good, considering i 'thought' i didn't understand Damian Marley. The island influence on this special delivered this to my heart. The synergy these two created was top-shelf, it makes Jay-z & R.Kelly look like 4th grade homework [I shouldn't have done that, as it was demeaning, but comparisons work wonders for perspective]. Frankly, it's hard to explain this album, which is another reason i used a comparison. Just trust me that it's great.

2. N.E.R.D. - Nothing
This is the best #2 I've ever posted, it hurts me to even associate this with a silver medal. This album means so much to me and as contradictory as this sounds, it is my favorite album currently. The undertones of social commentary in the lyrics are sheer genius. I tell people this is my life manual [behind the Bible of course]. The music comes from left-field, yes even for N.E.R.D., but it works so well with your ears. I am convinced that Pharrell has a voice suited perfectly for music, it's magical and unclassifiable. The layers in N.E.R.D.'s music is so much more developed than what i usually hear these days.

1. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
This album is so complete it forced me to move my own favorite to #2. The first observation i had when i heard this is, there's at least two songs within every song. He creates so much mood and build in each song, nobody shifts the music like Kanye. Another amazing feat he conquered was turning a bunch of features into a positive and not a negative. Kanye is a symphony director that organizes the people with the sounds. He put 11 highly acclaimed artist, a few legendary, on the same song and it came out sounding amazing. He does the complete gamut when composing, and i had to give him his just due for just that. I wouldn't be surprised if he mixed the album himself. When i listen to this album i can't even go find another hip hop album to put in without it sounding simple, this simply dwarfs all of it's contempararies. The one thing i can always thank Kanye for is pushing the envelope. If you can stomach more of my superlatives about Kanye go back and read my previous post.

To Those Who Believe:

It's no secret to anyone who frequents this blog that music is a critical part of who i am and when i find something with layers and depth that really speaks to me, I must share. I just purchased the jazz album of an incredible young man from a lineage you may be familiar with, his name on and off stage is Kenneth Whalum III. The album is entitled To Those Who Believe.

For my generation--somewhere below 35 and above 18-- Jazz has become antiquated and we no longer spend time with this inspirational and culture-building art form. Most of our distance is created by lack of accessibility and connectivity. A healthy portion of the jazz artist we knew/know are at least 15 years our senior so we never found a connection with them, although a lot of that music was just as incredible. A young man like Kenneth Whalum who was bred musically by one of jazz's elite (and I'm sure there's more to his story that i don't know) has the proper foundation and the right placement to really be a torch bearer for the resurgence of a genre. He is authentic enough for traditional jazz aficionados who are usually more roped off in their own music VIP section, but he walks amongst the crowd of the socially aware, those who talk and interact with more people on a day-to-day basis than our parents, as a lot of our friendships and acquaintences are still closer to fresh than they are old; these people disseminate information like highly contagious viruses. Therefore I think this young man has the credibility and appeal to get people to listen to jazz once again. Here's a brief caesura, my dad would be proud of me right now.

Despite that last paragraph please don't make the mistake of thinking this was about his "hip" factor. The music is stellar, and this i know as i've sat in my dads car listening to jazz for hours upon hours through my upbringing, i've been to the record store with dad many times and also sat on the back porch with he and his jazz. This is character building material--and i mean that--, something i would recommend to every human i know. I will probably play this for my grandad and send a copy to my dad, I have already smothered my friends with this album (they were appreciative though). If you can give this a listen, i am most confident you won't return to me unhappy.

I was doing my NY Times perusing and I discovered a fascinating feature, for knowledge's sake. This is census information compiled from 2005-2009. You have the ability to put in your zip code and see the population distribution along with smaller radius'. If you just had the thought, "Eh that's cool but I'll keep going", do both of us a favor and just take a peek at it and you'll be intrigued by something. For instance I looked at the disparity between the opposite sides of hollowed 8Mile Road:

My closet (or Burn Rubber), located on 202 W.Fourth St in Royal Oak is sharing their biggest accomplishment to date in a week. Very proud and motivated by my guys @OhShitRoSpit & @BurnRubberRick. I'm not going to do too much talking, I'll skip right to the meat and potatoes, pay attention.

Historically the New Balance MT580 is a shoe released out of Asia with various collaborators. This marks the first time that the shoe has been collaborated on and brought through by the New Balance America team.

In business since 2004 Burn Rubber is Metro Detroit’s first premium sneaker boutique. The Burn Rubber name is a play on a phrase from the Motor City’s car culture. The name came from the comparison of the use of sneakers on a person to the use of tires on a car. Burn Rubber is known throughout their community as the place to get hard to find, limited edition sneakers and clothing.

Burn Rubber made the shoe their own by applying a shop colored theme and utilizing materials in unique ways. The custom designed argyle pattern that lines the inside of the shoe was created to incorporate all of the company’s branded colors. A reflective 3M material, originally developed to reflect light for night running, was also used throughout the mostly gray shoe to give the design another dimension. The majority of the shoe design is comprised of New Balance’s premium nubuck and gray mesh, and completed with a touch of patent leather and a classic gum sole.

As one of the most recognizable aspects of the Burn Rubber brand they have chosen to include the shop’s mascot on the hangtag provided with each shoe. The Chef, originally created to be “just another T-Shirt design”, ended up taking on a life of its own. The photo shoot for this project was done from the perspective of a chef and was intended to bring light to the story of Burn Rubber’s popular logo & style.

The Influencers: Trends & Creativity

I've slated myself to read a certain book by Malcolm Gladwell (Shout out to The Roots) but I haven't gotten around to it. This is a small piece that points out a little of what Gladwell talks about. Most of us are very aware of trends and the ebbs & flows they take along time, however everyone does not look at trends the same. There are spectators that watch and eventually have a "Eureka!" moment once the trend is front and center; but there are also those that have that "Eureka!" moment at 2:38 in the afternoon on a mundane Tuesday in August. The principle is simple, either you make them or you follow them. Check this film out and see if it peaks your interest, and see where you stand. I know where i stand.

Man On The Moon (Revisited)

I spoke on Twitter earlier today about music artist Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi and pointed out things that i perceived to matter with music pundits. Cudi's second musical offering, Man On The Moon II, was released today with what seems to be minimal hoopla; seems interesting for a widely known artist that commands so much money in concert appearances and is the absolute favorite artist and understudy of arguably the best hip-hop producer/artist actively working. Nonetheless reality prevails.

As a person who ardently seeks music to love and enjoy, I find Kid Cudi a very fascinating artist. I am under the heavy belief that i am witnessing history, I think Cudi is the first of his type. As I told my good friend @Kerrel_ he is a "howler", not a rapper or a singer. I've witnessed him in concert twice and I swear that if you turn your back at times during his show you would think a wolf has been switched into Cudi's place when you were not looking. As i think back to when Cudi was introduced to the world there were a lot of people that were confused by his musical presence, initially he was called a rapper until those in charge of the titles could no longer produce evidence to support that claim. However it was apparent to everyone that he wasn't a singer, or at least not by the definition we have commonly adopted. I will indeed admit, when introduced i didn't know what to call him either (If i was ever asked to call him something, generally I refer to him as an artist). This discovery alone was substantial enough to keep me listening to him in an effort to learn more about him and I'm sure i wasn't the only one.

Another facet of Cudi's commanding music presence is his leadership and pioneering ability. He is the torch bearer for a section of society that never really had a quality representative in the mainstream music world. Matter of fact my friend @Kerrel_ who is from Cleveland told me a story a while back of a house party he and Mescudi attended where there was quite a bit of substance abuse taking place in one of the bathrooms -- and Cudi was firmly planted in the mix. And for the those still wondering, drinking doesn't happen in the bathroom. Cudi was attempting to rap and from the account i received it wasn't really good. This is long before he was thee Kid Cudi. But the point is he represents a large part of a youthful experimental culture that trades Excedrin for Ecstasy. A generation that never really felt the need to deal with their problems without abetment. This is probably the one subculture of America that didn't really have it's own music catalogue. No matter what you are pioneering you have to be a secure and sturdy individual or either simply not care, which i think Cudi is both. Cudi believes he is that "Nice" when it comes to music (See Complex interview). There are few music artist that give the fans an open book to read, for instance Jay-z shows very little of himself through his music, most songs aren't really too personal or relatable (how many of us honestly have Maybachs); Mescudi on the other hand will point out his instabilities with no concern for side effects and i find that to be commendable and I'm sure for him it's empowering.

Kid Cudi gives you quite a bit of feeling through his music, and that is paramount to attract listeners. The sound isn't what entrances you, its the feeling. People like music that feels good, or takes them somewhere they want to go. Music is simply what feelings sound like. If you are indeed adept at putting your feelings into music then you will win every time. I'm under belief that a lot of artist don't do what they feel when the music strikes, they operate only in the confines of what they believe to be acceptable, or what they are supposed to do. Cudi came along at the right time and is afforded the opportunity to be free with his song making and doesn't appear to be impeded by the machine too much. He probably can send a lot of his gratitude to his boss, Kanye West. The point is this, a liberated artist is a heck of an occurrence to witness. It will usually end up in superb material or atrocious material and Cudi is surely standing in the superb line only behind a very few.

For anybody looking to get a one-of-a-kind music experience i recommend Kid Cudi, it is imperative that you show up without reservations. Pop the album in (I or II) and slide your headphones over your ears. You'll find something to latch on to, I guarantee it.

This is a small trinket that I am working on. Here's the Munny. I'm living in a world now where I have to excite my own neurons, by surrounding myself with ideas and activities that I think are creative it keeps me stimulated. My mother always told me to never be "idle-brain". I've taken the time out to buy this little guy and now I'm going to paint him, for those that care. I'm showing him to you now in hopes that you'll be even happier when I finally paint him. Do you have things that move you? Try to surround yourself with those things.

Kanye's Vestige

There are billions of people on this earth and one of the most intriguing and awe inspiring happenings is when people find ways to separate themselves from so many that are just like them.

Here we are, a couple of days after, where the authentic feelings usually reside. Kanye has just debuted his short film "Runaway" and it has once again left him standing alone with no modern day peers in sight. The film was roughly 35Mins long with a delicately delivered storyline sandwiched between music and pretty imagery. A lot of artist leave the listener to fend for themselves when drawing conclusions and painting images in their head about the presented music, but Kanye spoon-fed all of his personal visions, whether fond of them or not. However it gives another avenue for avid fans and pedestrian listeners to latch on to, perhaps someone was not substantially moved by the music but they were inspired by the visuals.

Most hip-hop artist forget that they're making art. For the sake of consistency we'll classify Kanye West as a hip-hop artist (although i have another theory). Obviously most people want to sell music to the largest pocket of consumers they can reach, therefore you have to be very generic in your approach...unless you are THAT good (most aren't). One of the most perplexing phenomenons is that record labels usually sign hip hop acts that aren't 'That' talented. For instance I don't think many people would argue that 50 Cent, Rick Ross, or Gucci Mane are much more talented than many of their peers. Many of the faces in music are just that, faces. There are people who produce the track, craft the most important parts of the song, which would be the hook or bridge (IF the hip hop song even has a bridge now) and do a lot of the creative process for the "faces". It has become more important to find the right resource than to be the resource, which isn't always a bad idea but it shouldn't be the first option. The segment that now separates artist is marketing, therefore the eminent emphasis isn't on the art. Most passive music listeners will listen to whatever comes on the radio and aren't very discriminate in what they listen to. So the extra time/effort goes towards other things. Contrary to popular belief music is a niche culture.

Kanye on the other hand works equally hard at both, if you recall back to College Dropout he talked about how he had marketing schemes for an album that didn't even have a home (label) yet; he was the one who forced Rocafella to put the album out because he filmed the video got it played and was pushing his own art with his own drive. Whether one likes Kanye's presentation or not you have to be grateful that he is trying hard. He didn't wake up one day in Prague with a film crew, costumes, and backdrop and decide to shoot this film. He didn't decide to relay another gangster or street related visual back to us. He attempted to give us his story how he viewed it as he lived it; not give us someone else's story and try to fit it to himself. An "A" for effort should be given above all else. His motivation of changing the music landscape is the catalyst behind this and that has always been apparent. There are artist that often leave me perplexed to wonder what their motivation is in the music race. Kanye is amassing a nice collection of audio and visual memoirs to keep him alive for many years after he has stopped, and for an individual looking to change the ordinary that's not a bad idea.

Give Kanye credit, love him or hate him, he probably won't Runaway again... He'll be here in some form or fashion.

Very nice idea via the Chinese braintrust. What you are viewing is an innovation the Chinese plan on constructing next year. The rail bus is designed to go over traffic and essentially help travelers arrive at locations a lot faster than if they were competing in regular traffic. The questions I immediately thought of were, "what about cars that switch lanes -- or would like to for that matter". Perhaps there are kinks to be worked out.

My compadre KT brought out some familiar thoughts in a recent discussion about technology in America as a whole. We have so many capable individuals and resources and we have very few life-changing advancements. Most of the technological advancements come in small implementations and are generally for leisurely purposes, not the enhancement of life. For instance why do we still channel and utilize electricity the same way we did back in the 60's? Why haven't we updated irrigation systems or our transit? I understand things cost money but raising money has never been much of a problem in America. They attempt to appease us with iPhones and 3D televisions...we should be utilizing underwater boats to travel or moving holograms in the air with our fingers for our computers like Tony Starks in IronMan. There is so much more that can be done and they only give us the crumbs. And now my opining has come to an end, don't want my computer keys to jam...

LeBron James in L.A.?

This year's NBA free agent market has created a circus and the silent ring-leader of this big top is the NBA's "man-child", (each of those hold equal weight) LeBron James. Although free agency doesn't officially begin until July 1st, the campaigning began unofficially months ago. I've heard a lot of theories and thoughts but the one that i find to be the most scintilating is LBJ re-surfacing in Los Angeles - in a Clippers uniform.

The thing that makes L.A. unique from a basketball perspective is the fact that this market has been able to sustain two profitable franchises, with one being less than average on a regular basis; there are very few cities who can generate this type of revenue. The revenue base is strong, with many multi-million dollar entities, from high-end companies to a Kodiak theatre's worth of a-list celebs. In a study posted on Forbes.com in December of 08, it was revealed that the Lakers were 2nd in operating income while the Clippers were 13th among 30 NBA teams. The fascinating part of this is the Clips holding steady with no legitimate reason for hope or a superstar to rally around. LBJ could change both of those. With a legitimate superstar, and perhaps the most popular, he would be a cash cow for ticket sales (season and isolated). Russell D'Souza, co-CEO of SeatGeek, supports this theory when he talked about this years Eastern Conference playoffs, "Average ticket prices for the Orlando Magic's's home games in the secondary resale market "dropped immediately" to $154 from $177 when the playoff opponent was the Boston Celtics". LBJ would also bring legitimate hope along with his Gucci suitcases, especially when paired with all-star caliber veterans and sprouting superstars in their own right.

The Clippers have all the essential pieces in place to stay and help LeBron. With 18Pt/10Reb center Kaman locked up through 2012 along with fiesty guards Baron Davis (2013) and Eric Gordon (2012), LeBron has an ample amount of help. Not to mention he will be playing with last year's first overall draft pick Blake Griffin who showed quite a bit of promise before his season-ending injury. I have essentially just named their starting lineup. You add a couple of specialists and this team is as rock solid as any. The glaring difference with this Clipper team aside from its obvious scoring firepower is the presence of a veteran leader already in control, Baron Davis. The same Davis who took his 8th-ranked Warriors and slayed the number one seed Dallas Mavericks with primarily heart and grit, something the 09 Cavs obviously lacked. Dear cynic, i already hear you lamenting about the Kobe factor. The fact that Kobe already runs L.A. can easily be a deterant to the untrained eye. But every rivalry has to have a genesis and this can be where LeBron makes his historic legacy. Coming into L.A. and creating a gang like turf war (couldn't help the gang reference when discussing Los Angeles) would generate huge buzz, forcing patrons to pick a side similar to the Mets/Yankees dichotomy. LeBron and Kobe are already fighting for what seems like exclusive support from NBA fans, it appears to be one or the other, no in between. This would only fuel the long-suffering argument of who is the real king of the NBA. Although this rivalry wouldn't be Magic vs. Bird, it would be the lone credible personal rivalry since then; we already know Kobe is willing to throw his chips all in. For the NBA this would almost guarantee a Kobe vs. LeBron match-up in the playoffs. Nike would finally get real utility out of their puppets and the basketball world would finally have its wish. LeBron would get to create his legacy, similar to Jordan. The United Center (where the Chicago Bulls play) is known as "The house that Michael built". LBJ could create his own legacy out in LA, especially if he can dethrone Kobe, the king of kings in the NBA.

A large part of this theory is dependent upon LeBron's willingness to collide with and defeat challenges. He obviously wants to win a championship but he has also been quoted saying that he wants to be the first billionaire athlete in the world. I don't know if that takes away from his desire on the basketball court but a market like L.A. would certainly help him find more money, especially if aspiring owner and entertainment mogul, David Geffen, gets majority ownership of the team from Donald Sterling.

This would be a very bold move that can put LeBron exactly where he needs to be on all fronts. It makes sense and dollars. But now we have to see if LeBron has the onions to take on such a challenge.

360 Degree Lifestyle

Motivational/inspirational post. Lately i've been thinking about living a more complete lifestyle, this was inspired by some things i've seen and conversing with my compadres Hump, KT, and Sutton. There are a lot of ways to help fulfill your life that we overlook, and i think there is more time in a day than we think - theoretically speaking. We spend a substantial amount of time doing essentially "nothing". There is certainly rest time required and a substantial amount of leisure is due, but think about how empty a lot of the things we do are and what does it really amount to.

I recently re-activated my library card and i plan on rejuvenating my "book" reading regimen. I read magazines and articles consistently because i write, but there is a different level of linear comprehension involved when reading a book, i need that exercise. If you've ever read something and then you realized you didn't even comprehend what you just read, you need to condition your reading skills again. The aspect of physical fitness and health is also on my list, as a spry young adolescent i worked my body twice, and sometimes three times a day. The fitness of my body was impeccable. After taking a morning jog yesterday with my basketball i realized how far from good shape i have ventured (although i don't feel it in everyday boring life). I want to perhaps enter a triathlon, do a charity walk, or take on some challenges and meet them and help others along the way. Another aspect of life i want to work on is my communication, that is my specialty, always has been. I want to take my communication to the next level and learn spanish. I want to be able to interact with a another culture and get experiences that i would otherwise be void of. Of course there is my relationship with The Lord and the growth of that, spending more deliberate quiet time with Him. Granted i keep Him in mind always throughout the day, i think it is important to get away from distractions and fully devote some time to The Lord.

In summation i think i can get more out of life, well i think we all can. There are obviously many other things that i would like to do but i just wanted to kind of touch on some things to hopefully give you a visual of what i had in mind.

Ro Spit- A Different Arrangement

The return of the Fly Emcee is upon us with a slightly different approach. Arriving June 8th is Ro Spit’s, A Different Arrangement. Ro Spit has been propelled by his widely played OH S#!T Project which elevated him from the pack of rappers without an identity to an artist with a heavy broadband following.

Artist inspiration can be channeled through many unexpected outlets; it forces them to take an angle that may not have been visible before. For Ro Spit, that inspiration arrived in the form of fellow Michigan representative Mayer Hawthorne and his Strange Arrangement. Understanding the notion that music never limits itself is a very liberating mindset. Ro acknowledges “I don’t have certain or specific things that inspire me. I just know when I feel it, and then just hit the gas.” Ro Spit made a transition from reverberating bass patterns to trumpets and cymbals, showing his diversity and musical dexterity. And he almost did it overnight. Ro quickly took his time and completed the project in less than a month, another ode to his voracious work ethic. The project cradles the listener and rocks them through unexpected twists and turns, going from juxtapose storylines to outright semi-automatic verses; or as rappers say – Bars!

This arrangement is comprised of the musical production from Mayer Hawthorne’s previous arrangement, as confusing as that sounds it makes perfect harmony. With no features and special guests, Ro Spit is the solitary emcee to finesse this delicate music. There are many superlatives that could be used to explain this outstanding work, but for now let’s just call it…Different.

Very creative swimming pool room. This is in the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art over in Japan. I thought this marvelous. It also makes me want to go swimming.

"Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich created this fake pool called The Swimming Pool, for The 21st Centurey Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. Leandro put two clear acrylic glasses about a foot apart and filled the space in between with water. The top surface is also filled with about 4 to 5 inches of water so that it looks like a realistic pool."

I have to admit i didn't expect Table Tennis to topple every sport that it did, and even field hockey for that matter. The amazing thing is look at the drop off from Table Tennis to Baseball though, it's like the great divide that separates the sports have's from the sports have-nots. I think this also explains why Roger Goodell and the NFL are pushing so hard to attain the worldwide following that the other leading sports have, by placing games in London and such he's trying to make up a lot of ground in the cash race. As my friend and i dialogued about it, we've concluded that you have to get into the habits of fans to really reel them in. One game a year in London won't really do it. For instance with Soccer (or what they call Football) these people grow up with this and its as innate to them as American Football is to us, you have to penetrate the habits and the cultures to really make a difference. I also contend that another way American sports can make a difference is to essentially get some global opinion leaders on board and the rest will follow but the important demographic to snag is the youth.

I will say i always wanted to play soccer as a kid but never really had the opportunity, I love watching the World Cup every 4 years, and as a matter of fact i have a special video for you to watch; presented by my friends over at Swoosh or Nike as many of you say.

I didn't know the White House was into posting videos, for now i will roll with it although i pray im not empowering something i'll regret later. However, Michelle and Jill went down to Haiti now that some of the national attention has subsided and took a moment to personally observe the damage as well as sit down with some dignitaries. I think its a good gesture. Aside from the ladies examining the city i found some of the images captivating. I learned a little bit as well, as i was previously unaware that every last school had been eradicated. Things like holding classes in school buses and such just remind me of how far they still have to go. I found the video quite interesting so as always I'm willing to share.

Gang Starr - Mass Appeal

When this song hit the circuit i was only a tyke, the year was 1994 and i was a spry 10 years old. I remember perching myself right at the tip of the couch so that i could firmly plant both my feet on the floor and lean as close as i could towards the television that really wasn't that far away. The volume was up just enough so that i could catch every syllable of Guru's rhymes but not too loud so that the sound escaped the den (but those drums give it away every time). In 1994 my parents weren't too fond of hip-hop let alone the notion of their 10 year-old son plunging himself in the music so carelessly. The point is, I used to kick back with The Box and get into my zone when this song came on. I would later own Full Clip: A decade of Gang Starr and pump it through my headphones in my reclining posture, still spry, but now a more cultured hip-hop high-schooler. So as Guru passes away i just wanted to reflect a little bit and think about some of the good times i had. Here's the actual video (I couldn't embed)

Dateline: Detroit

Just saw a special on Detroit via Dateline, it was very moving. It moved people to reaction which is what good television does right? My social networking time lines were roiled by the depiction which i felt was largely accurate.

The piece touched on standard problems such as crime, education, housing, and money. Standing in a position without strings attached i think the looming problem is the what we value and our blind loyalty. One can gather a pretty accurate assessment of the city just from looking around, the grime and frowziness of the city tell the story with pristine clarity. You can tell what people care about by what they take care of, living in the city you are prone to hear many patrons professing their love and dedication, but its seeing it that usually presents the problem. Regularly visited establishments don't even have the decency to paint chipped outer shells, pull weeds out of the cracked cement, and put their best presentation forward but the catch is we accept it. The trash floating across sidewalks doesn't do much for the argument of love either. Aesthetics matter, firm believer, indeed i am. Detroit is simply one large eyesore. As a child i would come from out of town and the visuals of Detroit would without fail punch me right in the cornea every time i returned.

One of the stats mentioned was that there are 400 liquor stores within the city limits and concurrently the city is void of a major grocery store. Some things just ought not be so. The reality that the public school system was in such dire straits that the nations government had to send in an appointed official to try to salvage the school system speaks volumes, i do not believe any other city has needed such (I'm welcome to corrections, if i am wrong). High schools don't have running water in their science labs, small problem, however on top of many others it weighs tremendously. The city has a crime rate seven times higher than New York per capita, yes i said seven times. The argument that every city has problems fatigues easily in this conversation. I do not believe this was mentioned in the special but I've witnessed one of the most unprofessional, unproductive, and immature city councils in modern government (im sure of it). Arguing like children and talking about what people look like in city meetings among other trivial things make me scratch my head as to how these people are even remotely qualified to be in the positions they are in.

I started on this because many people seemed to be offended but becoming defensive isn't the right way to mend this thing. I had a friend that wrote, granted it was Facebook, "...unless you're going to tell on your friends and family that's selling drugs and robbing, you can't change Detroit". This statement is starkly accurate, the morals that we have that keep us from pushing each other to be better push us behind the eight ball. Many of the younger demographic 30 and below still finds time to honor Blade Icewood, a drug dealer who rapped on the side. In fact he's probably considered city royalty. For the record this isn't an obscure sentiment. The people of Detroit can be a very loving people but for the most part it seems that they just have not been taught what to love and care for. We accept and expect less. I do not want the people of Detroit to be so offended all the time, its like sticking up for your alcoholic uncle when indeed he is an alcoholic. We have to be pragmatic and stop trying to cover everything up and shift attention elsewhere. There are indeed some good things about the city but honestly they are few and far between. The city of Detroit once thrived and it can certainly do so again but the mindset of the people needs a major renaissance and a guidance on where they need to go.

I did some Sunday reading on the NY Times, which we know is a publication i have a strong affinity for, and i learned something about a certain variety of coupons that we use. The popularity of internet-based coupons grew 268 percent in 2009, we didn't think the marketing guru's were going to let that trend go quietly under the radar did we?

A particular company RevTrax (the only company mentioned) has derived coupons that are able to compile and store information thus creating customer profiles that can be stored. Many of the printable coupons or those sent to mobile phones contain information in their bar codes that often have the ability to denote what search terms were used to find the coupon, internet address, and in some cases even Facebook information. We, the consumers don't have the ability to look and see what information is compiled, they simply appear to be regular coupons to us. For retailers and companies RevTrax offers a bit more information than one of the industry leaders in web marketing, Google. Google provides feedback about what search terms are popular and what gets clicked but does not provide information about who clicks, it appears to have been done in the spirit of protecting consumer information.

RevTrax works a lot with image-rich ads and captures the information every time a customer uses the coupons. If you click an advertisement it may take you to a different page than what you would find if you just searched for it, although the pages may look the same; the difference is primarily behind the scenes.

Black Agenda: We Count

The programming on C-Span2 for the last couple of nights was a round table discussion comprised of black leaders and mediated by journalist savant Tavis Smiley entitled, Black Agenda: We Count. Some of the personalities invited to articulate were very familiar names: M.E. Dyson, C. West, L. Farrakhan, Angela G. Blackwell, J. Malveaux, and J.Jackson along with a few others. The event aired in separate parts across two nights, i was able to catch the second part last night.

The focus appeared to be around a black agenda, i believe this was outlined in a book which Blackwell alluded to as a New York Times bestseller; I must admit i was not privy to before last night. However the panel last night, whether by design or happen-stance, became fixated on the alleged shortcomings to Obama, and also his lack of overt love towards the black community. I believe Dr. West said "We loved you and embraced you long before you were [president]". There are a lot of black neighborhoods that are decimated with putrid school systems and the cutting of jobs in the public sector (postal workers, bus drivers, etc.), but this panel was lamenting that Obama hasn't done what was necessary to fix these things among others, sans Blackwell. I was at odds with these comments, we are intensely hard on Obama failing to acknowledge a couple of huge footnotes; It has only been one year and he can't pass everything he wants to at will. Obama and his staff have done quite well, starting with the fact that he is the first president to have an Urban Affairs team. They talked about getting the crack/cocaine punishment ratio even from 100:1 down to 1:1. Apparently the O administration has gotten it down to 18:1, the majority of the panel was unhappy with that. That crack/cocaine example was used to make a point, its very hard to be radical in office and get your agenda accomplished. It is important to take into account the Senate and Congress. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little bit to move things forward in the right direction, as oppose to holding out forever to get nothing. This country is vastly bigger than the African-American population and we cannot act as if our priorities should take eminence over the rest of the nation. I understand that we have been placed in some precarious positions but you can't ostracize everyone else (two wrongs don't make a right).

From the beginning Obama has attempted to unify not separate, that has been evident from his negotiations with Republicans and his asking for solid ideas. Sometimes the black contingent can become quite lopsided in their argument, in addition to being too dependent on one individual. Perhaps Obama was not in office, then what would we do to help our predicaments? I agree it is necessary to speak up for your communities but we need to do quite a bit more starting with home base. The O administration can do a lot but it is generally going to be on a impersonal scale but i think more important than systematic changes we need personal changes. I know that's a big statement, and i do believe both are necessary. If you provide a community with the money to rectify the failing schools and such but the kids aren't going/learning or the school board is wasting away the money then what good does the donation do?

By the time the questions came around the focus was in deep left field, so i won't comment on those. In summation it was a noble idea but i don't think it was executed effectively, from the skewed age demographic of the panelists to the misplaced concerns. I respect the conversation but we have to take care of our own before we ask someone else to take care of what we have.

As im currently plastered in my chair at the San Antonio International airport i have a little time on my hands. I found out something that may intrigue you, well it intrigued me. Mike Tyson is slated to have a show on Animal Planet that will air in 2011 on a topic/sport that i never knew existed until today, pigeon racing.

The article faintly talked about Mike's dealings with pigeons as a young man residing in Bedford-Stuyvesant(Bed Stuy)that i was vaguely familiar with but never gave it any reasonable measure of thought. I was under the impression that all New Yorkers played with pigeons in the park, blame Home Alone 2. Is there anyone out there that can explain how you can conduct a fair race between birds? Mike Tyson has to be one of the most interesting people, and for the record i don't think there is anything wrong with racing pigeons. I'm actually not familiar enough to have an opinion but his tendencies and affinities are very hard to come by, what makes one like that. From his let down against Buster Douglas to his biting of the ear, and now we have pigeons. And perhaps its only fitting that he endears pigeons which many people consider the dirtiest bird of them all, and consequently the most shunned. Im no psychologist but perhaps there is a level of connection and sympathy there.

The point is i find all this very mystifying and I'm certainly going to tune in to at least the inaugural episode to see what this is all about. I'll check back like a chiropractor.

Ro Spit- "Over"

Im going to go ahead and put this on my blog and give the people something fresh and new.

The parallels between Drake and Ro Spit are quite similar, both dropped very good projects in past years that flew under the radar. And just as Drake shot into super-stardom after the release of his mixtape in 2009, Ro Spit achieved his fair amount of accolades when he hit the launch pad with the OH S#!T Project in the same year. So when Drake dropped his lead single "Over" about a week ago, it was quite natural for Ro to make his own version. But not only do you get top-shelf lyrics, you get the video to go along with the experience.

The video is directed and shot by extraordinary talent and long-time collaborator Gerard Victor.

Sony PS3 remote

How cold are these remotes? Apparently Sony has taken hint of the success that the motion-sensitive Nintendo Wii has garnered and looked to make a splash of their own. Of course its too late to be pioneers but they can most certainly take control of the market. Visually i dig these remotes a bit more than the Wii variety because of the added versatility Playstation has added, more buttons and directional pad in addition to the analog. These controllers are supposed to debut in the fall along and Sony will apparently start rolling out quite a few titles to correspond. I do think that the Playstation is in a more favorable slot than Nintendo being that they are more versatile in their gaming selections. Nintendo has endured a tough time keeping their amazing initial momentum, check out some numbers from fall 09

Have you ever thought about the essence of sports? Of course it's big business, top-tier entertainment and all that jazz; but honestly what's the big deal? I sat back with my main man KT and we laughed about the notion of grown men playing Sports. The conversation took place on a Sunday afternoon amidst the heart of football season. We sat and watched commentators sit around in suits and talk about big fat men pushing each other, *crickets*, sounds pretty silly doesn't it.

Its quite paradoxical that grown men get paid hefty garbage bag money to play a kids game. The commentators are dressed in the same garb that CEO's wear. The other adults in attendance, fans, paint their bodies and wear ridiculous costumes to games. The whole atmosphere is astonishing. Stadiums are millions of dollars and the furnishings are the best money can find. Players often come to the venue with their suits on, meditate and ruminate on music and philosophies. I hope the vision is now palpable.

With all that is put into it, perhaps you can see now why people take sports so seriously. Many people who aren't big sports fans will say that its just a game and its not that serious, which is true. But when everything else contradicts that i can see where the signals would get crossed. For kids and even adult athletes that lose tempers and go to extremes to get an edge, i can see why they have become this way. I am reminded of the all the athletes caught cheating with steroids and other methods such as Mark McGuire, Bill Romanowski, and Marion Jones; as a fan I have often sat back and thought, "what could make these people think they could get away with this?" Maybe they didn't think they could get away with it but perhaps the potential gains outweighted the losses for them. Sports are games, but everything that surrounds it is a whole lifestyle and culture. I believe from the moment many of us are introduced to sports as children we quickly understand the grandiose environment that sports create.

With the recent win of the New Orleans Saints a lot was made of how the city could really use a championship to boost spirits and help heal some of the traumatic wounds that still ached a recovering city. Journalist are "story-tellers", couple that with carefully selected images to supplement the story and it makes everyone believe that sports are more than what they really are. Honestly there is very little that a New Orleans Saints Superbowl win can do for such a ravaged city. As a matter of fact it will probably hurt more than it helps realistically. The Saints organization doesn't win and then spend an additional amount of money on housing development or community programs. The Saints win and then they charge more for season tickets and spike prices in general because now the demand is higher. Perhaps there are more patrons from Houston traveling across Interstate highways to get there. T-shirts and jerseys may cost more. Then most of the free agent players demand more money because they think they are better than what they are or deserve more money because they've won a Superbowl.

The point is try to keep sports in perspective. Its only a game but it is entertainment.

If nothing else, im able to empathize with Kanye musically. He often says what i want to get out but i don't quite have the platform. I've talked to my partner KT and we have these intellectual music conversations and i feel as if Yeezy sits in on them. There is a lot of music that i don't like (a and a measure that i do like) and its often contingent on the music principles that are missing or present and Kanye kinda touches on some these things. And most hip hop artist aren't even familiar with some of the music terms he uses like syncopation So kick back and listen to me speak via Kanye.

GQ is really delivering this year, but im not referring to fashion in the least bit. I read another article that blew my socks off, about former great Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison. The article chronicles the timeline and peruses the details surrounding a North Philly murder that seems to have Harrison's vestige all over it.

Ardent and even some loosely involved sports fans will recall Marvin Harrison as a very quiet and robotic individual, never said much to the media, and now we know to include his teammates among the shunned. A small excerpt reads "...through all this, his teammates claimed they didn't know him in the slightest. "He's like Batman," linebacker Cato June told Sports Illustrated." By most accounts he was a very tidy man and kept things in order as one should. But back in home in North Philly things got sloppy quite fast between Harrison and local drug dealers and childhood rivals. I won't divulge the story but its a fascinating lesson for some and a melancholy reminder for others of how ones upbringing and environment can haunt them. Unfortunate upbringings can be sticky webs to get out of and this is the epitome of that.

This is an article published in the October issue of GQ Magazine that i found captivating. Its a bit longer than most web articles but i was so engrossed i didn't even notice. You can read the article here to be well informed as you continue reading what will ensue.

The NFL has been very reluctant to succumb to novel research that suggest their players are at an extremely high risk of dementia and other related problems that can affect players immediately after their playing days. Including their insidious attempts to have scientific articles removed from publications. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar industry that has thrived for so long on the insatiable appetite of fans to see the violent collisions and incredible velocity that they can't or won't attempt to do themselves. The NFL works like insurance companies when it comes to distributing money to former players for disability. They give the most egregiously disabled retirees the minimum amount of money, when in fact they deserved the maximum. All in all, the subtext reads "we are worried about our profits and not the players". Putting money into cures would seem advantageous but that hasn't been the strategy. It looks like strides are being made but the NFL has put this off for so long they may end up with a larger fight then they intended initially. This should be interesting to follow.

My Top Albums of 2009

I've done this for a couple of years now so i suppose we shall call this annual. I will rundown the 2 rules that i have.

-The albums are selected from what i have personally heard.

-There is no need to argue because my opinion is what i deem to be the total after tax, its nothing else to add.

Shout out to Maxwell by the way.

5. Kid Cudi- Man on The Moon
I have to give this album a large measure of valor for its audacious stance. One of the best things to come out of Kanye's wake is the liberty that some artist are afforded because of him. Cudi makes a contorted hip-hop album that teeters on the line of simply being a harmonius album; tracks such as "Make Her Say" save it from that label. The album is very emotional, but not in a traditional emotional kind of way. Its a journey of the heart and if you have any sympathy or empathy then you will at minimum find it intriguing enough for it too keep your attention. Good songs with good melodies, and if you're open-minded enough to listen to music without checking over your shoulder to see if people are watching then you should enjoy it.

4.Wale- Attention Deficit
What a change-up, although its right down the middle some still cant hit it. An album that holds true to hip-hop values at its core. Its so traditional (as far as hip hop is concerned) that it threw many people for a loop. The thing that puts distance between this album and others though is the wordplay of Wale. There aren't that many artist with lyrics that are so pertinent to everyday life and conversations. A pinch of 'go-go' makes this album very special. The most important part of this album is the issues and real life concepts that Wale tackles on songs like "90210" and "Shades"; handling anorexia and social insecurites. He indeed has the honesty and credibilty to make these songs hit home.

3. Jay-z- Blueprint 3 Alright, what do we expect from a Jay-z album? Alright then. Jay has a flow that most rappers would kill for and he sprinkled that all over the album. The production is always upper-echelon. However the gift and the curse of being Jay is this: he is so far removed from most of his peers and fans due to his incredible business ascension. So at times there is a little bit of feeling missing. But as a upper echelon emcee he has the art of song making down and he's essentially more than a rapper. These days its hard to come across a bad Jay song, let alone album.

2. Clipse- Til the Casket Drops
The return of the duo made a huge splash. One of the weirdest phenomenons in hip-hop is that duos often get glanced over when it comes to emcees. But these two are the perfect compliment to each other (perhaps because they are brothers). There is a whole lot of relatability in this album, when Malice talks its hits home. Their silent 3rd partner for this album, Pharrell plays just as big a role on the production (he did not do all). The Clipse have elevated beyond the drug talk and taken it to another level, a level that most didn't think they would see. Great maturity and growth on the album.

1. Drake- So Far Gone
I don't know how many superlatives to use for this mixtape (its technically not even an album). Musically this tape is head and shoulders above other hip-hop acts. Drake is an artist that posesses dual talents ala Lauryn Hill, you see where im going with this. That alone sets him apart from many. Its very rare...scratch that....you never find an elite emcee that can sing quite well. He understands the concept of making "music" not necessarily traditionally sounding hip-hop, which is something that most emcees don't. Most rappers pigeon hole themselves into making music that sounds a certain way. And with that said he stepped outside the box to make universally great music the same way that Mike Jackson was accepted by all walks of people. Alright we all know he's not Mike, but the idealogy is similar, not the results. But Drake created more than music, he created his own sound. Just listen to some of the piano's he mixing into some of the beats. Who has done a nationwide tour off a mixtape, with enormous anticipation and nice size venues. His efforts dwarfed everything that dropped this year and he gets the #1 slot easily.

Brown & Jackson: A Re-creation

I figured everyone would get a lot of entertainment value out of this. I think C.Brown is probably the best known re-creator of Michael Jackson artistry. Ive always admired the young mans talent in the dance arena. Thanks to silly BET and Jay-z (see previous post) we didn't get to see something like this at the network awards immediately following M.Jackson's death, the timing could have been impeccable for C.Brown.

@Twitter Etiquette

The social network "it-girl" @Twitter has expanded too fast for servers (@Twitter is often down with maintenance) but it has also overwhelmed the general public; so much that people have no etiquette and tact within the micro-blogisphere. There can be no civility in a forum without rules, correct? Today i think establishing some rules are in order.

Twitter by nature is polarizing, with lingo such as "follow" and "unfollow". It already makes everyone take a vain premise by referring to their friends as "followers". And to make @Twitter even more strenuous on personal relationships people use the new social networking behemoth for different reasons and its not always blatantly discernable. Perchance i get on @Twitter to keep up with local professionals/businesses, i may be bombarded with friends (probably associates) asking me why im not following them on @Twitter as they have decided to follow me. Truth is i may not be on there to keep up with friends. But they may be there to simply laugh and chat with friends, thus they would like to laugh with me. Some people treat @Twitter like Facebook and that is a definite folly. For @Twitter the fact that i "know" you doesn't merit a "follow" or what Facebookers would call a "friend request".

Also you cannot take an "unfollow" personally, the person is simply not interested in reading your 'tweets' or 'twits'. This doesn't mean that they no longer like you in real life or they don't respect you; it simply means that they would rather not have you help saturate their timeline. I have to digress for a moment and note that it is very interesting to realize that your friend is someone that you really can't stomach in pure form. Once one has the realization that you and your friend have completely conflicting and dueling ideologies on life. Then there are those that just talk too much via @Twitter. You feel as though you cannot even get an honest glance at the rest of the people you would like to hear from because one omnipresent user is dominating your timeline, usually with emotional updates.

The Golden Rule of @Twitter: You cannot force someone to follow you. It is highly recommended that you follow people simply because you want to follow them, not because you want them to follow you back. This wreaks havoc on the resisting party. As a matter of fact there is a term used by a few lads i know, #twitterrape, which refers to the action of forcing someone to "follow" you.

Remember people, @Twitter is not real life and you will be ok.

Somethin About Her

You are really going to have to follow me on this one. I was sitting and thinking about women-as it relates to looks. I have realized that there is no such thing as a "good looking woman", from a mans perspective. What IS available though are women that we perceive will raise our status.

Here's my premise, have you ever heard a guy say "i don't know what it is about her but i like her" about someone who isn't mainstream cute or attractive. Basically its an effort to point out the notion that she isn't what i should like, but indeed I do like her, thus im afraid to blatantly say it. Im concerned with how did we get this way. In a subtle way i think we have learned to be afraid to like what we truly like and that goes for more than just women. A pertinent example would be: If I were to like listen to toads and frogs croak. That would make me weird right.

Now there are some features that us males are attracted to regardless but its usually in sexual nature, but as complete beings there is more to be fulfilled than just sexual desires. But for some reason we consistently neglect the other aspects that need to be tended to as well. Also there are some women that we genuinely enjoy all around but we refrain from making a commitment to them in a monogamous relationship (women do this too). But if we thoroughly enjoy a compatible friend, then what reasons do we have to keep a measure of distance? The inverse of that argument is that we find what are deemed to be "good looking" women and dive into relationships without any regard for how deep the water is. We may barely know the person's last name but she looks good and that settles the bill, we may have very little in common but it doesn't seem to matter. Ive concluded that we do it because we feel like we are gaining something or elevating our perception. Its actually quite weird that this is how we operate.

I don't really have a solution for the proposed perplexing scenario but i would encourage people to engage in relationships that are truly happy and healthy for them. Also this is something interesting to think about as you sit on the 'Sofa.

Ice Cream Man

I got wind of this through Hypebeast, and i was caught up in the draft. This is a mobile retailer that has borrowed he idea of "the ice cream man" (not Method Man & Raekwon). But i found it quite interesting and if done right on a consistent basis can be epic. There is a similar high end version of this in The Hamptons.

Parra, an underground star in his hometown of Amsterdam, drafts art with much spice; he frequently does collaborations with Nike and other ingenious brands. Stones Throw is a few things merged down to one lane, but primarily a record company. The two companies, Parra x Stones Throw collaborated with this idea. They drove around the metro Los Angeles area with product and virtually came to the customer.

I think its a solid business idea and can create quite a demand. Initially i thought this could only be wise as a one time gimmick until i gave it more thought. But think about how much zeal the ice cream creates in the neighborhoods when he comes creeping down the street. People lose their mind. With this idea you have the opportunity to create exclusives and you increase the demand because the potential shoppers don't know when or where they are going to see you next. In the current atmosphere of retail and instant availability i think a regressive approach could be refreshing and profitable in the form of money as well as brand equity.

I think its an interesting occurrence to learn from. Im going to try be more forward thinking in my approach these days.

Fox News has taken it upon themselves to conjure up footage from a previous demonstration in an effort to present to the public an exuberant rally. When walking the thin line of opinionated programming you should reserve some measure of dignity by not falsifying your material.

How can Fox or its proponents be mad when BO (Barack Obama) suggests that members of the American public refrain from watching their network? In my most humble Joe Wilson voice "You lie". Actually there is a purpose for right-wing programming and that purpose has to be executed in a punctilious manner. As the country debates different topics and strategizes which ways are best, you actually need someone to oppose and play devil's advocate, although i do not believe they are playing. But the golden rule is you have to be truthful in your stance, no prevaricating, feel free to extrapolate outcomes, but do not deceive. I do not have granite facts to back this up but, i feel as if we get a lot of tampered information sprinkled in amidst the honest information and that is demoralizing.

Now even more unsettling is that the leadership at the network allowed that footage to be used. Even if they didn't I haven't heard any executives or leaders saying "hey we made a mistake, or we botched that one". I would imagine that someone would want to at least portray the idea that they genuinely care about honest reporting and the American public. Perhaps I need to make some calls and say something...

I am really led to believe Barack when he speaks about uniting parties and ending the practice of "playing politics", it appears all too often. Its so asinine and blatant that we have terms like "filibuster" "filibustering" used in Congress and the Senate, those terms were actually in my 6th grade book, c'mon people?! So far he appears to be a man intent on getting things done for the American people, not trying to do favors for the sponsors or keeping the perception that the democrats are in control right now. He wants opinions and suggestions from everybody. I am optimistic that one day we can travel a better path, however in the meantime we have mess like this...which is a pretty big deal if you ask me.

I actually don't think that they display anything particular but the artistry of it is what snagged my attention. Much of this has been through the wringer already and im going to approach this with a sense of delicacy. Kanye's actions of taking the microphone from Taylor Swift was nothing that i condone and i actually feel it was out of pocket. However most of life is layered and this is no different, occasionally things get in the way and nullify the good intentions or scramble the hearts meaning.

I've heard people say that he is pompous and they will never support him... but i think that's the perspective of someone who doesn't see the complete scope of the situation. First lets make this point Taylor won "Best Female Video" and Beyonce proceeds to win "Video of the Year". This is like saying you didn't make the playoff but you won the title, totally paradoxical. Of all the people i have talked to, not a single person has been able to make sense of this for me. MTV is the same network that a couple of years ago gave Britney Spears the main stage at the VMAs and gave Kanye a side room to perform in. Here is the context, Britney had not been doing anything but rehab, she hadn't been making music and she was definitely out of game shape to even return on a national stage such as that. It is utterly ridiculous to surrender her the stage in denial of Kanye who was killing the networks and radio alike with his Graduation album.

You see MTV plays politics and charades, for an honest and authentic artist this is your greatest fear. Kanye doesn't have a malicious bone in his body concerning music, he loves it, perhaps to a fault. His gripe is completely with MTV not with Taylor, i don't think in his tactless rant he meant to decry Taylor, she was merely a byproduct of the fight with the network which is part of the machine. He actual prefaces his declaration with "yo Taylor Im really happy for you ..." He meant everything he said, he really was happy for Taylor. See the thing with Ye is that he perhaps is honest to a detriment. If he were to craft his method better perhaps his blow would have landed more effectively and the public would not be blinded by his incurtious actions. But trust me his heart is in the right place. Just like when Kanye stuck up for the people in Katrina with the George Bush comment, the man honestly means well. The most intriguing facet of this is that he fought for someone else. And not to say that Ye is the only one passionate about his craft (because he's not) but he one of the few within his circle that is passionate enough along with a platform to keep the validity of music achievements. If you follow the mans career, when he came out on his first album he said " at the tender age of six she was arrested for the sit-ins, with that in my blood i was born to be different" referring to his grandfather taking his mother with him to the sit-ins. He believes in standing up for what he considers are the ills of the music game. And unfortunately that is something that i cannot be mad at, granted he could certainly have crafted his tactic better. Generally we forget that everything has two sides, if Kanye wasn't the dominant personality he is, we would never know his name. He had to basically kick the door in because nobody was even giving him a shot with his music career. Certainly becoming more refined would serve him well but when you allow people to be themselves you must accept the good with the bad.

I've watched the Taylor video that won. MTV is "reaching". I'll leave it at that. And its not about how many albums the person sold its about the video and "Single ladies" has penetrated darn near every culture to the point where they spoofed it on Saturday Night Live, that's penetrating. Whether we think the video was great or not the impact was certainly monolithic and obviously MTV agrees giving her the "Video of the Year" award. There is certainly contradiction there and for honest people (trust me I know) it eats you alive when people are deceptive. Some people have cynically responded that he knew what person to do that to and that he calculated this. I can't argue his calculations or not, but you would be hard pressed to get the proper factors to align again. Kanye ONSTAGE next to a microphone, overt bias occurs, network has previously snubbed him. You can make a case either way.

I watched his apology on Leno and he emphasized that he has nothing against Taylor and feels tremendously horrid for degrading her music ability and her moment because those weren't his intentions. He would never want to take anything away from people musically, that would be counter productive to his quest. He simply has too much love and passion for music to watch people politic'it. I don't think people really understand K.West and just because he isn't always politically correct doesn't make him a bad guy. I personally think we need more Kanye's. We all hear of the ills of the music industry and how biased it can be. I've watched other artist gripe about it and nobody ever does anything and for that matter i can't particularly take exception when someone finally steps up and says something. Kanye isn't quite jaded like most of the world, remember that approach we all had as children, when things were wrong we said so; we didn't look at life and say "oh this isn't the right time somebody might get offended". He often holds that same approach. Ye doesn't do this for fame or glitz, as a matter of fact he hates seeing the paparazzi and the like. In his apology he said "i have to accept that i am a celebrity", indicating that he fights with this fact; in his brain he wants to be "A real boy" and live in a real world. Any mistakes made blame it on the mind not the heart. Remember "Everything im not made me everything i am"

Mike Vick was signed Thursday. Im typing Sunday. Generally im not a knee-jerk reaction type of guy. I have gathered my thoughts along with others to compose what i think is an interesting dichotomy of America. Those that loathe Vick, and those that enamor him. I think this topic has uncovered more about cultural differences and principles than any discussion has in a while.

Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagels 8/13/09, the announcement was made as a Philadelphia Eagles preseason game was simultaneously taking place. As this transpires i hear reports that some fans decided to leave the game in a fruitless preseason protest. There was one lady who was crying and stated that she has to now give up her season tickets. I've seen facebook status' that wished the worst of occurrences to Vick and all sorts of venomous outrage. As i observed and quelled my own statements i realized an interesting point; this is not about written laws its about moral codes.

In society we are technically governed by laws and unwritten moral codes/laws. There have been plenty of athletes to break the "Law", but none so viciously ostracized. He has served his sentence but yet the public arena looks to brutally bury him, however not everyone. From what i have observed there is generally a culture/race line that is drawn separating the furious from the forgiving. Generally in the European-American circle dogs are obviously more revered than in the African-American circle, so although it was a felony one sector really has no quarrels while the other sector boils over with rage. So although this was a crime committed i think it is paramount to understand that the community that Vick has been apart of virtually his entire life generally did not hold this behavior in contempt, even though it is against the law. As a matter of fact there were others football players who spoke when the actions were first uncovered and felt this was no big deal. Before a stone is thrown at my laptop, please understand that i think the actions were foolish. However there are things people do everyday that are illegal but morally it elicits very little outcry or concern, such as smoking/selling weed. See i've known quite a few popular weed sellers and no one makes a stink. Im sure that is how his dog-fighting ring worked, his background and those he was involved with saw no fuss to make, thus he was not persuaded to change.

The amount of lamenting against Vick is uncanny to anything i've witnessed in sports. But on the other hand why are African-Americans so laissez-faire about dogs? I hate to become a historian but one school of thought builds from the idea that African-Americans were often chased down by dogs of slave masters so the connotation of "dogs" isn't a pleasant one. And on the reverse side of that one can make a case that this is why European-Americans have embraced them so; they really have taken this personal, but it is so unclear why. People continued to root for Dallas when they signed Pacman Jones and people also rooted for the Ravens when Ray Lewis had the murder trial. These two were never convicted but the people hated Vick before he was convicted.

I hold the idea that everyone deserves a chance to be forgiven. Sometimes it takes someone like that to reach other people. What will you ever get out of forever banning him from the NFL, that benefits society none! We have all made some mistakes, some more public than others but it bothers me to see so much vile commentary tossed around like everyone is perfect. He paid his dues and i think we need to move on and continue to make this world better, not continue to try to hold people down. Besides he's playing football, not running for Mayor, where his character needs to be tried and true. I don't think people realize how much hate tears down the world. Look at what Martin Luther King Jr. accomplished by reciprocating love, he could have easily looked to kill everyone that had hung, tortured, and abused his people, but he chose love and learning instead and accomplished wayyyy more. Apparently we have given him a holiday and don't even know what for. Although i can understand some not liking this gentleman, but this is bigger for some people, and this hate has to stop.

America and Health Care

This is an episode from the the Daily Show with Jon Stewart (with limited commercials, thank me later) about Theodore Roosevelt; but more importantly the health care dialogues that are taking place in the nation. There has been lamenting across the nation on town hall meetings opposing the new proposals for health care. I watched Obama speak for about 45 minutes on CNN explaining a plan for universal health care, I will assert that he laid quite a bit of the details out in a rudimentary fashion. Although i have not seen the proposals written down, which i suppose i should, the plan provided what most deem to be relatively logical and feasible solutions with the only suspect factor being the money involved to pay and support such a plan. I've read a few things in the New York Times as well. I say all that to say these people have lost their minds.

The problem I often encounter when dealing with hostile citizens is that they often have no basis for argument and refuse to participate in productive dialogue. Watch as excerpts from meetings around the nation are consolidated and highlighted on the Daily Show, showing just how far we have to go.

There is an interactive map that plots homicide points on the map via blue dot, as information trickles in daily. You can view the results by all years, specific years, or past 30 days. You can also view results by race of perpatrator/victim, gender, age, sex and other options to inform you on exactly what is taking place as far as homicides in NY. Telling Personal Sex Life = Jail Time?

Alright readership stick with me as I put on my journalist shirt and tie in an attempt to convey this story in a concise manner. In Saudi Arabia a man by the name of Abdul Jawad was arrested for bragging about his sex life on television on a Lebanese show entitled "Red Lines". He discussed foreplay and sexual conquest along with how he picks up women. Jawad is a 32 year-old divorced father of four. Discussions are still taking place to determine whether charges will be filed.

The climate in Saudi Arabia does not endorse public disclosure of sexual exploits, as a matter of fact unrelated men and women are not allowed to mingle and pre-marital sex is illegal. In a drastic pendulum swing Jawad has begun what we refer to from a PR standpoint as, damage control. In a local newspaper he issued a sorrowful apology accompanied by a photograph of him absorbing his tears into a handkerchief.

Here are a couple of fun facts to introduce that will escalate our dialogue, CNN reports "Abdul Jawad is not in jail and is considering filing a complaint against the show’s producers for presenting him “in the worst possible manner by taking two hours of footage and condensing it down to a minutes-long segment"". As we delve further into what was shown CNN relays this information, "It includes scenes of Abdul Jawad discussing his enjoyment of sex and how he lost his virginity at age 14. Abdul Jawad is also shown in his bedroom, where he holds up sexual aids to the camera. It ends with him cruising the streets of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in his car and looking for women."

Let us start with the first quote concerning his portrayal in a negative manner...isn't that what TV does? They always tape more footage than they need and when cut, material is constructed in order to put forth the most riveting pieces and merge the most tantalizing details. Before he volunteered to participate (assuming he did by the amount of info he divulged) I think it is fair to assume he should know what their purpose is and what they are going to do with his segment. Actually let me take this moment to warn those reading, if you are ever the subject of a story being filmed for television, please know what the treatment for what you are doing or in remedial terms "what they are going to do with it". Now the second quote actually bothers me, with the intentional and deliberate coverage of his escapades it seems that the Lebanon Broadcasting Company would take some liability for this as well. Considering there are laws and against disclosing sexual encounters. The broadcasting company is the vehicle that afforded Jawan the television opportunity, without them none of this happens. It is similar to when people curse on TV in America, it is the network who bleeps it out; they assume the onus. Therefore i actually find this quite hypocritical and repugnant.

Now I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the simple liberties we exercise in America. Im not encouraging that we be grateful we can voice sexual exploits publicly, but the relative freedom of speech and personally liberating lives that we do enjoy. This story was actually quite humorous to me but I hope that as we chuckle we do not become unappreciative.

New Ruler Concept

The ruler takes measurements via tiny metal edges that sense when they are being touched. This is virtually a sneaker update via Ibn Jasper. I posted this because he shows the new Louis Vuitton sneakers that are the result of a collaboration between Kanye and LV. He displays a black high top pair, red low top pair, and a grey/pink/brown high (which i call the graduation edition). As many of you know Kanye just had the release with Nike who dropped three colorways of the Air Yeezy's and now these are on the market.

Without getting too long-winded i want to illuminate the notion that these appear to be the luxury rendition of the Yeezy's. Made in similar high-top form just a sleeker build and slightly more luxurious fabrics. I just wanted the people to check them out, not because i like them so; actually the only pair I can dig is the "graduation" edition.

ESPN: "Do Not Report"

Steelers quarterback Ben Rothlisberger is currently involved in a civil lawsuit regarding some rape charges. This stems back to a celebrity golf tournament a while ago, the dates are irrelevant. The major (Applewhite) point of interest is the fact that ESPN has a "Do Not Report" tag on the story. After doing some research the rationale is that ESPN does not report on civil lawsuits regarding athletes, here are a few examples of that: Kobe, Vick, Harrison, so that is obviously a lie. There are more but you get the point (I got those examples from the Bleacher Report).

I was going to go a different direction on this fiasco, and then i found those examples. I have (Kevin) love for ESPN, but they really need to get out of the (Tiger) woods on this one. I got word of it on the local news in Detroit, they just mentioned it in passing and gave the (Mark) blunt facts. I cannot help but be a cynic because to me this wreaks of some cover up. Now let me mention that ESPN has done a "do not report" before and it turned out that the story was erroneous. Everything is not out but this appears to be quite legit. Im not a fan of them plastering Vick all over the screen everyday all day (Adrian Peterson) with court (Lee) appearances and jumpsuit coverage, however as the worldwide leader, the Superbowl winning quarterback deserves a mention (not even the last 2 minutes of the show, dang). Even if they note that all the facts have not been solidified and the case may not have legs (Tim Leger). Maybe ESPN thinks this will go away by osmosis or magic (Johnson).

Someone mentioned to me that maybe he paid them a couple millions and said you can't put anything pass people but i have to dissent. As a subsidiary of Disney, ESPN earns billions in revenue (i didn't research that but i have an inkling) and they would take a couple million from a sports player to jeopardized their news and credibility. For one, those would be dangerous gates (Antonio) to open up and then you would never have any news to report. Although I don't put anything past people, i can't roll (Samari) with that one.

So as Ben Rothlisberger goes through this I would hope that the truth (Paul Pierce) comes out and a just resolution is reached. But in the meantime I think ESPN owes its proponents a logical explanation, not to say that we will get it but it sure would be nice.

Black Olympics?

I'm a little uneasy about the idea that i have to post this video in order for the people to know what the heck i am talking about. So here it is, professional athlete Martellus Bennett decides to make a video with his brother, displaying the "Black Olympics". If you haven't clicked it i would advise you do so before you read my commentary, otherwise you are reading a fictional recap of an imagined event.

Why would he feel the need to share this ignorance with the world. To be honest I can actually see how he and his boy/brother could think this is funny. However, to elongate those stereotypes with no respectable regard for your race and the walls that you build before them is egregiously irresponsible. And as life ensues we wonder why people look at us a certain way.

I think people of particular races have to understand that when you reinforce certain stereotypes then essentially you are giving a green light to all or at minimum most stereotypes of your particular category. How do people and races unfamiliar with the reality discern what stereotypes hold true and which do not, they just get a glance of MB doing the "Black Olympics" and they say "oohhh that stuff they say about black folks must be true". I'm not saying that this something that needs to be debated with legislation but, I think someone does need to sit down with him and explain a couple of things so he can be enlightened. What he thinks is funny may only be just that to a very small sub set of people.

I think the world has expanded too fast without a rule book. All these new media outlets and platforms offer people more digital horsepower than they are capable of operating safely. With traditional methods of communication such as magazines and tv we've always had guidelines but now there is no code of ethics or unwritten/written rules. You can find not just one or two pieces but a smorgasbord of turbid material on the web.

The dialogue started when a friend of mine says "I wonder why men fantasize over superficial women and claim to only like natural ones". At that moment the micro-blogging grew into real blogging, and so I'm here to flat-line this topic.

I attempted to appease the contenders by asserting that, as a man you can be visually attracted to "superficial" traits/features (because that is primarily how men are stimulated) as the world preys on that fact daily; so you enjoy the visual but you don't have a legitimate desire to "be with" the superficial person. In order to understand that concept first you must understand that we all have a lustful and sinful nature (I won't get too biblical). These superficial traits are going to tantalize, but as a man who knows what he wants, he understands that those traits don't hold any water, they are simply "visual stimulations". Let me note that those are not the only things/traits that visually stimulate men but it is indeed a portion.

My co-defendant chimed in with the brilliant metaphor of rims on cars. Yes a lot of rims do look good on cars but they are quite unnecessary, and although it can look nice, you dang sure don't want them on your car. Matter of fact take the whole car for an example, think of all the car shows that display these highly complex remixes with all kinds of tv screens or trivial accessories like a swimming pool in the flatbed. I might even be enticed to ride in it one time and get an experience but i know cotton picking well i don't want to own the keys and lug that hunk of exaggeration around. So you see, yeah its looks exotic and such but...I reiterate, "unnecessary".

So the assertion that men do not know what they want is an ill-informed one. I think it verifies that you know exactly what you want, as you navigate past temptation and fruitless eye candy. If you didn't know indeed what you were seeking you would be quite sidetracked by these things. You know what qualities are important in the woman you desire, you maintain the stance that a naturally shaped or featured woman can fulfill your needs more than satisfactorily and you also understand there are other things that play a role in the woman you want, i.e. mental cohesion or similar ideologies. So I look at this thing from the other end zone (sports reference, its a guy thing), i contend that it shows a man is quite certain of what he needs in his life.

Michael Jackson: Person or Icon

I'll start with a quote i generated some days ago, "The more talented you are, the less human you become in the eyes of the public." Americans as a collective unit have to learn how to view talented individuals as humans and not icons. As i watched the Today Show this morning Matt Lauer asked Tommy Mattola, "What was it about Michael Jackson that allowed his fans to overlook his [controversies], Tommy Mattola simply replies "His Greatness". A friend told me they read a passage from the mayor of Gary, In where he referred to Michael as "the prince of peace", extremely hyperbolic talk as there is only one Prince of Peace. Once again our perception is distorted.

Jackson's passing was a startling and surprising occurrence but the overt displays of emotion seem rather ungrounded, and at the height of those missteps is suicide. We can't pretend to overlook the reality that Jackson was a troubled man, and with that said I can't say that i am completely surprised. Many different medications were found in his home, he dueled with anorexia, fought a lung disease, and we all were aware of the skin disease. Never does one expect death especially considering the dubious circumstances that surround Jackson's. Most of us did not know Michael Jackson personally, yet some have patronized the goodness and gifts that Michael munificently bestowed upon us, but i think it would have been more important for them to carry those burdens with Michael. One of my favorite individuals Michael Eric Dyson pointed out how Jackson identified a lot of the ideologies that tortured the African American community for years, many African Americans wrestle with the European standards of beauty, so much that we turn to surgery operations and wigs (weave). He was not "used" as a artist because that was his profession, however very few if any were heeding the Jackson's inward, yet outwardly visible lamenting.

People have taken tickets to the memorial to Ebay, in an effort to profit off of an enormously popular dead man, deplorable to say the least. The Today Show is giving the run down of proposed celebrities in attendance as if that matters, although the service is at the Staples Center, "this isn't a basketball game!" There was a lady that hitch-hiked a ride to the Staples Center and all along her trek i believe she spent $1400. How does she have money to make this trip but she can't afford transportation. I do not tell anyone what to do with their money; I would rather tell her you do not owe Jackson your presence at his funeral. You've essentially paid him by purchasing his music and supporting his career, personally you don't owe him anything because personally he gave you nothing. That may sound unwarranted as i do not know her life but we've had approximately 12 members of his fan club commit suicide and I pray that the number isn't understated. Redundancy usually creates deaf ears but, he was human just like you and I.

As i close my soliloquy I wish the Jackson family the best and hope that if there are any positives that can be extracted from Michael Jackson's death we pay attention to them. Most importantly, all I can hope for at this point is that he knew Jesus.

Palin Perplexes Me...

I have always been a little perplexed by Sarah Palin, lo and behold, she does it to me again. Recently she announced that she will not seek another term as Alaska's governor. Initially some thought that it was a segueway to her run of 2012, but then i hear whispers of criminal investigation. Nothing is confirmed so lets not concentrate too much on that. But i think its important to note that in a report from MSNBC they inferred that Palin generally hasn't been opposed to working with a lot on her plate.

The fact that she didn't turn over her state to the lieutenant governor is puzzling, in a way (as the clip references Clinton and Bush). Perhaps this contributed to her lack of thorough knowledge on critical and eminent topics. In an article on NYTimes.com Ross Douthat cites statistics and writes "In a recent Pew poll, 44 percent of Americans regarded Palin unfavorably. But slightly more had a favorable impression of her. That number included 46 percent of independents, and 48 percent of Americans without a college education.

That last statistic is a crucial one. Palin’s popularity has as much to do with class as it does with ideology. In this sense, she really is the perfect foil for Barack Obama. Our president represents the meritocratic ideal — that anyone, from any background, can grow up to attend Columbia and Harvard Law School and become a great American success story. But Sarah Palin represents the democratic ideal — that anyone can grow up to be a great success story without graduating from Columbia and Harvard."

When i couldn't put a finger on it, Douthat transcribed what i couldn't quite verbalize. With all the opportunities she has been afforded she seems to always be ill-equipped, and every time i look for her redemption moment she botches another situation. I will never knock anyone's potential but at this moment in time she is in over her head. Maybe running Alaska doesn't quite prepare one for the national stage like sayyyyyy, New York. Now I hear rumors (albeit BET) that she has talk show suitors, although they did not mention a specific type of show, do you really want a presidential candidate one day and a talk show host the next; the two professions seem as close as two positively charged magnets. She is just a walking enigma, for me at least. I generally love well rounded people but she seems to not have much of a handle on any of her trades. Maybe that last statement is too sharp because i thought everything was running just fine in Alaska prior to 1o months ago.

One day I would hope that Palin sands those edges and tailors her position and offerings to the world. But for now the dubious legend of Palin still leaves me scratching my head.
