China's Express Bus

Very nice idea via the Chinese braintrust. What you are viewing is an innovation the Chinese plan on constructing next year. The rail bus is designed to go over traffic and essentially help travelers arrive at locations a lot faster than if they were competing in regular traffic. The questions I immediately thought of were, "what about cars that switch lanes -- or would like to for that matter". Perhaps there are kinks to be worked out.

My compadre KT brought out some familiar thoughts in a recent discussion about technology in America as a whole. We have so many capable individuals and resources and we have very few life-changing advancements. Most of the technological advancements come in small implementations and are generally for leisurely purposes, not the enhancement of life. For instance why do we still channel and utilize electricity the same way we did back in the 60's? Why haven't we updated irrigation systems or our transit? I understand things cost money but raising money has never been much of a problem in America. They attempt to appease us with iPhones and 3D televisions...we should be utilizing underwater boats to travel or moving holograms in the air with our fingers for our computers like Tony Starks in IronMan. There is so much more that can be done and they only give us the crumbs. And now my opining has come to an end, don't want my computer keys to jam...

New Ruler Concept

I was thumbing through the internet and i came across this novel ruler with a novel concept. Although it is not commercially available yet perhaps this will be something to look out for in the near future. The ruler takes measurements via tiny metal edges that sense when they are being touched. The exact measurement of your line will display in what looks like LED fashion hidden within the rulers cosmetics. The designer is Shay Shafranek.

They don't make em like this...seriously

For the guys out there having a little trouble among the ladies, they are working on your solution. There is a new humanoid robot debuting next fall, called EMA, "Eternal, Maiden, Actualization". Im not sure why they named it that. But this is coming from Sega Toys out of Japan, perhaps its the same company that produced the video game system in the 90's.

According to a press release the robot can sing, hand out business cards, and walk "like a lady". However most impressively it has some kissing feature that is activated when the head gets close to the robot, apparently it goes into love mode. Its a battery powered robot and also uses infrared sensors to get around obstacles. I don't know exactly what you would do with this but i just thought you should know, should be available next fall if you need one.

Technology Dependence

This is an article that i found pretty interesting. The article talks about the development of children from the time they are born through their ascension in age and their compatibility with technology. In the digital realm that we have created where children use cell phones and technology holds a special place in their heart, it is imperative that this society understands how children develop in an attempt to keep them stimulated and not stymie their development so that when they become individuals on their own they are not mentally inept.

So it was from the New York Times and the link is: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/12/technology/personaltech/12basics.html
