Obsession & Insanity

This is a video i had to create. I was led to the Macy's shoe department December 26 and look at what I found, a department in utter shambles from the catastrophic and insane shoppers. The eminent fact here is that Somerset Mall is supposed to be the premier mall in Michigan, a place the affluent and dignified flock to make their lofty purchases. Look at this mess! And people wonder why i often attack the morals and values of Americans, where is the civility.

To my understanding there was a great sale, or at least it better have been. But a great sale does not warrant acting like a savage. As Americans become greedier and exponentially more materialistic we lose our civility and values. There is no reason why you can't pick up a shoe and put it back down where you found it, there is also no reason why you can't put the shoes that you tried on back in the box that you retrieved them from! This is why stores open up at midnight to releases products and people stand in line for days upon days to purchase things they will be tired of in a month or two. This is also an extension of why we are in a recession now. I read an article a while back that said something like this, "about 25 years ago CEO's made about 5 times more than the average worker, now its about 18 times more". People have developed a tendency to get all you can at any cost, totally apathetic to the next man. Maybe im exaggerating but there is just no reason that i should have been able to make this video. Don't get me wrong i like to have things as well, however i think it is important to exercise some measure of discipline and civility. We had someone killed this year on black friday because some ignorant, belligerent, and insipid customers chose to trade a man's life for a cheaply built and marginally constructed door-buster piece of electronics that wont work in two years anyway. C'mon America, are you serious?

We need to start over make everyone hunt for food and build their own shelter. We'll go from there and we will see who's looking to get to the store to buy an overpriced item that doesn't help them live or exist one bit. I can rationalize a scene like this at a grocery store or the realtor's office just not at a department store. Next time you are shopping please act like you have some sense and assure your parents that they raised you right.

The Best Albums of 08

This is the second installment of my annual "best of " album assessment. Things you need to know include:
1. the albums are selected from what i have personally heard
2. with the lack of quality music volume i have dwindled my list to 4 instead of 5, a "decent" album doesn't get you on the list
3. There is no arguing because my opinion is what i deem to be the total after tax, nothing else needs to be added

First i must start with an honarable mention, Common - Universal Mind Control. He's one of the major players in my lineup but the album just came out in December and its just solid not exceptional. Now lets start the show (shout out to Finding Forever)

4. Joe Budden - Halfway House
dope
This album is technically classified as a mixtape, however i make the rules. Joe veered slightly from his Mood Muzik series and put together a compilation that took over listener's emotions but not in the somber fashion of the MM songs. As usual he saturates the microphone with his witty opinions and perceptions. He took the time to seek new production and compose theme oriented songs, an occurence usually reserved for actual albums, and some artist don't even do it then. So he gets praise for his laudable efforts.

3. John Legend - Evolver
dope
As far as R&B is concerned i am a stickler for songs that excavate below the surface and detail the many emotions and feelings involved with romance and things of that nature. I have a hard time enduring "sex songs". Legend put forth his best effort to date on this one, a mix of breezy, light-hearted songs and demanding, aggresive tunes. Also i was pleasantly surprised once i thoroughly listened, as i expected the run of the mill John Legend. He took a step outside of his traditional formula with the help of many, nonetheless exceptional album that i will replay for a long time.

2. Nas - Untitled
dope
Some of you may refer to this as the Nigger album, but no matter what you title it the product is great. The concept and depth of the content is informative, riveting, and incredible. It is an art to teach and educate in an enjoyable and eloquent fashion. I suppose only a veteran could have pulled this off and i applaud Nas for taking the bold stance, as he states "people are afraid of criticism, but i always put myself in a sacrificial position". He nailed it, nuff said

1. N.E.R.D. - Seeing Sounds
dope
This is one of my top 6 albums of all time, period. Although they are often categorized as experimental rock, i like to refer to this album as just pure music. Each song features a break down that any musician or artist would kill for. The melodic range of the album is off the charts, the verses are so poetic and alluring. This is what happens when you give ardent, bold, and insanely talented artist the liberty to do as they please. Its such a rare mix of peculiar talent amongst the three members that has progressed with each album they make and it has come to a temporary apex (they may get even better next time). If you aren't familiar just do yourself a favor and listen to "Love Bomb". It was impossible for me to not give these guys the top spot.

I Give You Butterflies

Dope
Dope
Dope

This is a display in Dior Homme by Andrea Mastrovito an Italian artist. It is nine thousand negro butterflies spiraled across the wall. Just pause for a minute and look at the creativity. I am not commissioning it for my personal household or anything but I think it is extremely suitable for a boutique or store with a creative brand (well it will be in their store for a month). However i was lured in because we don't get creativity like that over here in the states. All those familiar with the ambiance of the 'sofa are aware that we make our bed outside of the proverbial "box". Someone made reference to the Hitchcock movie with the birds only less menacing, and much prettier. I am really just encouraging everyone to let out their inner artist to individualize yourself and and your ideas, show the world what you really have to offer.

That's my Joint, Turn it Up

One of the most notorious American officiated prisons is Guantanamo Bay where foreign detainees are often held and tortured, however not like you would think. One of the absurd ways America gets under the skin of prisoners is with music. Many of the incarcerated are from the Taliban regime where music is prohibited. The prison blares music, often rock but not limited to, for hours upon hours, which to the unfamiliar listeners it just sounds like strident noise.

Many of the prisoners have recalled inmates going hay-wire. Binyam Mohammed recalls guys screaming and simultaneously banging their heads on the walls because they could not take it anymore. One inmate had his hands and feet shackled together and in conjunction all the extremities were shackled to the floor so that he was forced into a painful squat for two days. Oh and I forgot the music was still playing at top notch decibels. As expected officials at Guantanamo Bay declined to comment.

The reason this story has come to light is because a coalition of musicians including Nine Inch Nails and Tom Marello from Rage Against the Machine are requesting that their music not be used. It must feel good for the prisoners to finally have some advocates. On one end i have to give kudos for the creativity, but on the other hand I don't know that i am for torturing anyone. I feel bad for the prisoners, as much as the innocent can feel bad for the guilty. Have you ever listened to rock music for HOURS straight with no break for your ears, im assuming with the volume so loud you can't hear yourself think? I am really speechless on this because i have yet to fully absorb this info. I suppose it would have been worse if they were playing that new Kanye with that excessively worn, irritating, uncreative AUTOTUNE! I apologize for polarizing comment representing my musical feelings. Im done here.

They Shootin, aww Made You Look

I am a little tardy to the dialogue on this one but hear me out. Recently New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress shot himself in a night club with an unregistered handgun, was taken to a hospital (admitted under an alias), turned himself into the police, and now is facing a potential 3 1/2 year sentence. This blatant description would sway most to put this man into the "fool" box, but upon further review I don't think he is as idiotic and brazen as it appears.

I've submitted accounts of athletes being violently injured amidst off-duty activities before on this blog and every coin has two sides. One side has seen many athletes suffer fatal and devastating fortunes due to their inability to protect themselves, such as Javon Walker beaten unconscious in Vegas, Sean Taylor murdered in his home, and Richard Collier left paralyzed from 13 gun shots. The other side of the coin is sensible enough to suggest that with the Scrooge McDuck bags that these guys are bringing home perhaps they can afford a bit of security, a bodyguard or two. Let me expound upon the facts before i delve any further; Burress has registered the gun before in the state of Florida but his license actually expired in May. This is essentially a futile point in the court of law because New York does not give any credence to permits from other states, but in the court of intent it certainly harbors valor.

With everyone having the right to bear arms that nullifies the egregious idea of having a gun. Also since he has previously registered there is not malicious attempt to hide his gun. Don't get it twisted though, he should still have to deal with the consequences just probably not the maximum which seems a bit excessive. Sometimes laws are flawed in their construction, i think everyone essentially has the right to protect themselves the best way they see fit. They just have to deal with the consequences. For instance in Michigan which is a "castle law" state (with modifications) you can't shoot an individual who breaks into your home solely on that occurrence, your life technically has to be in a measure of jeopardy. Most citizens would agree that blasting shells into the intruder isn't to unreasonable, right? Add all these things up with the idea that Plax is a more attractive target for most goons than the average man, and trust me he is, you have rationale for carrying a gun. I think if you want to attack something it should be his mindset, the constant leery situations that he puts himself in. Also whether or not it is worth it, but just because someone has more money doesn't mean they have more wisdom.
I think I rest my case your honor...

A Nice Sunset

On the Sofa' I strive to give the people something innovative and new to keep them on their toes. Some people get inspired by art and the like so i posted this, it may not do much for some of the readership but its a nice change of pace. I thought this was pretty relaxing, therefore you might as well. Furthermore I don't want to tell you what to think about as you indulge. This is an evolving sunset, for those that are at work and cannot get away. Or for the few that just like to look at nature but don't want to go outside. Enjoy (I hope your computer isn't slow).

Technology Update

Although many of you don't go swimming anymore, i think these are pretty cool. I wish i had them when i was coastin' in the ocean. As you can observe it is an underwater digital camera mask from Liquid Image Co. It shoots high quality, up to 5 megapixels. It might be a nice CHRISTmas gift for someone who likes to interact with ocean life. Just thought i would mention.

Little Brother

Recently i had another friend from high school pass away, as i sprawl on the floor listening to my headphones with my brother behind me on the couch i am reminded how delicate life really is. You'll know why its important that my brother is behind me later. Many occasions we are reminded of the proverbial saying "tomorrow is not promised", but i get a funny bone feeling in my gut when i hear those words, I indeed embody that saying if that is humanly possible. I have had 5 H.S. classmates die (i believe) since i graduated a mere six years ago. My heart rumbles whenever i get the news and without reservation I am immediately struck by the power of God.

See, for those that are formerly unaware I was stabbed in the heart, 2 years after graduating from H.S. I additionally was wounded with a slightly collapsed lung as well. The approximate 30 mins that i lay on the ground have the strongest replay value in my mind even through this day. As a relatively young man it is hard to assess the plenary value of that proverbial phrase, although you mentally understand what is said. Experience is the best teacher. If you want to put your current situation in perspective think about your past, if time is an issue think about when you were 7 and 22 seemed like light years away. You made it and now you don't know where the time went. Think about how smart you thought you were at the age of 16, and think about how smart you are now. So for me i think about those critical minutes when i laid upon the legs of my brother and grasped at consciousness over and over, however was barely able to hold what i reached for (my body shakes even now). Consciousness was handed to me only by my brother who rattled my shoulder consistently and implored that i open my eyes. Nonetheless as i drifted in and out the events of my childhood and past replayed in my head so vividly as if i had watched myself grow up (YES, that really does happen!). As I peacefully accepted the reality that i was on the cusp of death, I was reminded in the form of my little brother to "Live". This is not a commonly shared experience but for me i think about how alive i thought i was then and compare it to how alive i am now. Have you ever felt life? I have and it feels amazing, especially the first time my two brothers came to the hospital and cautiously entered the Intensive Care Unit with blatant trepidation where i was battling, and with no words said, each one of us cried as we were overwhelmed with the feeling of LIFE.

Everyone has a purpose and you can rest assure that you are not leaving here until your purpose is fulfilled. Some may think that i am too young to do life reflections but Brian Wallington has a long road behind him.

The people we may know that pass away are our "little brothers" that remind us to live. We all know the delicacy of life but as we lay on the ground and go through the motions sometimes we need someone to rattle us and say "open your eyes, and live".

The Heaviest Feather

Now that much of the adrenaline has subsided, the reality and enormity of Barack's presidential campaign has taken a different direction, for me at least. I watched Barack approach the podium with his radiant family by his side. I listened attentively as he addressed the nation, and redirected the jubilant energy towards a more critical and somber mood. But as i stared, i understood what Barack's intentions were. He knows that there is so much work to do and how paramount it is that we are all on the same page, as he consoled even those that did not cast their ballot in his favor. He mentioned that he would be forthright with information and he might not always make a call that we are going to like. I have the utmost respect for his intentions, as he appears to be a man after my own heart. More importantly this spills into a more daunting issue.

I was at work and a co-worker asked me "don't you think Barack feels a lot of pressure, because what if he doesn't do well?". When he approached me with that question, i was immediately struck with a measure of familiarity. I responded to him as if i was pregnant with the answer for 24 years, maybe i was. I told him Barack feels the same way that I do EVERYDAY! Granted i am not the president, but i carry the onus and weight of my family, race, and affiliations to everyone that i encounter everyday. I represent Wallingtons everywhere i go, i represent a black race every living and breathing second. There are so many people that i interact with at work on a daily basis that will rarely ever get the opportunity to have a quality experience with a black person, the only construction they get is through the media. If i were to affirm those stereotypes and misconceptions then i have failed. I understand it is not about what others think, and i should not have to whisk away other people's ill-informed notions but the situation is bigger than me and when you are a part of something larger than yourself it brings a greater sense of responsibility. For Barack and myself we do it for the people that will come after us, so that they too will have a chance to operate in whatever capacity of life we were once in, one of the best things we can do is "not close the door".

So Barack approached the people carefully and compassionately because he cares, but he has been carrying the onus for years, im sure people have been incredulous of him his whole life, its nothing new to him, he's been proving himself every time somebody gives him a chance. Barack is transparently a synecdoche for blacks. I believe that he is genuine and his character has steadied turbulent waters, when your lifestyle is honest and open you have nothing to worry about. My grandfather once told me when i was little, "keep your nose clean, in case you want to be president one day". Baracks grandmother must have told him the same thing.

"Before Steve Jobs made the Ipod..."

I meant to unveil this information a while ago but since my comrade over at Cloud Nine is talking about "high tunes" and "high pods" i will pull up the caboose with this one. Most people are familiar with Steve Jobs, who is regarded as the resuscitator of the Apple brand particularly for his ingenuity-- in the form of the ipod. The ensuing revelation will validate why reading is paramount. There is a gentlemen by the name of Kane Kramer who had the rights to a patent back in 1979 for a digital music player that held three and a half minutes of music. No, this isn't quite the 60gb that ipods have elevated to but the concept is certainly mirrored. His sketch is the picture above, intensely similar to each and every mp3 player we have now. Kramer was forced to relinquish his patent in 1988 as he was unable to come up with the money required to hold his company afloat, it effectively went bankrupt. Kramer has never received a penny for his contributions to the development of the ipod and essentially all other mp3 players. Kramer has not acquiesced completely, he still looks to recoup some monetary benefits for his copyrighted drawing which bares a stark resemblance to Apple's iconic player.

The launch of the ipod in 2001 trails 1988 significantly, some would argue Kramer had time to re-build and execute his idea. But the unaware corporate and public forum has donned so many superlatives upon Steve Jobs regarding him as an ingenious technological pioneer, he may only be a fraction of that. He indeed deserves a trivial amount of credit for presenting the concept to the Apple brand, in a plan apparently succinct enough to be properly executed. The next time you see Jobs, ruminate this in your head, "he is renown for an idea that wasn't even his".

Its amazing how far ahead of the masses Kramer was, there was no such thing as a cd when he was working on his ideas, neither was there a tape (i believe). Think about how many ideas we get daily that we disregard and drown out, or ideas that we conjure up that never bloom outside of our own minds for the rest of the world to see. I know Kramer didn't make it happen completely but he took the initiative to execute his idea, that's where we commonly fall short. This informative and inspirational session was for free, courtesy of the 'Sofa.

New York Times Barack Endorsement

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/24/opinion/24fri1.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

This is so serious im not even using a picture! This is an article written in the New York Times that essentially endorses Barack Obama from the vantage point of the collection of editors (therefore the whole newspaper). The article is astoundingly precise and keen as it evokes critical thoughts on your selection in November. The article stretches the insurmountable gap between the two candidates in a vanilla manner, not by crafty, eloquent wordplay. I felt it was really powerful and mentally jarring. Please Read! I don't get these goosebumps often.

My Long & Strange Trip

I should not even be in the position to write this post but I am, therefore i will impart my experience upon the 'Sofa. I had to go to the courthouse today, for some aggravating traffic stuff. Pay attention as I detail the experience.

First, I get downtown at 8:20 a.m. or so and of course the parking is extremely sketchy and spotty, lot attendants looked like they just emerged from underneath a downtown awning and left their shopping cart to collect dollars from hurried and pre-occupied drivers. I did not park in any of the lots, for one because i did not have any legitimate amount of cash on me, and if i did I was going to at least attempt to fabricate a parking spot before i gave them any currency. So I found a meter and my mood was quickly reversed (I always have plenty of change, especially quarters). Although the meter actually took Visa, I happily fed my quarters into the machine until it flashed there is a one hour maximum. I was then dismayed, because I didn't realize that, perhaps in my blissful state i did not read thoroughly. I chalked it up and sauntered to the courthouse, when i got to the door and peeked in I reaffirmed to myself, "I knew it"-- the joint was packed! One of my first observations was that the people looked visually dilapidated minus a few here and there. I had on a suit and most people looked they were trying NOT to wear a suit. I saw everything from Jordan's to tattered and old Converse's that i haven't seen in YEARS... and trust me i know shoes. People wore dickie outfits, largely printed name brand items, and old dresses that look like they USED to be for the club. Its a good thing it wasn't hot outside because im sure someone would have tried to clandestinely shuffle in there with a beater on. This is wrong on my behalf but I looked at these people and thought, "I just can't see these folks voting".

But one of the funniest things is that everyone had to remove their belt to go through the metal detectors, hence everyone is walking around the courthouse in scattered pockets looking as if they are just getting dressed or leaving the bathroom, I thought that was hilarious! If you kinda squint your eyes at the payment counters you would swear that you were at some indoor festival, and the payment counters were concession counters. I felt so distant and excluded, i certainly did not need to be in there and i will put the stamp on that sentiment later.

So i eventually discovered after about 5 minutes and questioning what counter to approach to get my destination. I head upstairs to my courtroom and then i realize that i left something in the car, the bailiff or whatever they are said sure you can leave. I hustle back through the maze exactly how i remembered it back to my car, then i had an audacious revelation, "I can put more money in my meter". This was a blessing in disguise! So I do just that then i groundhog day-it back through the courthouse. Somebody took my seat but other than that i felt good. By now its about 9:00 and they are clearly not ready to start (why did they tell me to get there at 8:30?). I was perturbed all over again because although i extended my time they are clearly intent on whisking my precious minutes away, my rationale told me of course they are going to address my ticket last because that's the way the world works, right? Certainly as i thought up my self-fulfilling prophecy it happened that way. I sat through a bevy of stories but only one of them stood out. There was a gentlemen whose case was dismissed because the officer did not show up, he was trying to argue his ticket!? Then his daughter who was about 30 years old herself interjected from the benches and tried to co-sign her father, but they clearly are disengaged from the rest of world because everyone is telling them to be quiet and GO, Get OUT, you're free!

So i finally get my chance to speak my peace, not the result i was looking for but whatever... I already hate the police so nothing happened to sway me the other way. I pay my "court fees" and such and proceed out the door. As im walking past one of the security guards by the door a woman stops and inquires to that security guard, "who do i speak to if i want to press assault charges against someone". This affirmed the notion that i do not need to be here. Yeah, about that.... don't you go to a police station to do that?

So this journeys comes to a close as i reach my car and of course............. i have the inevitable parking ticket.

OPEC and Oil Prices

I got this information via The New York Times and it vaguely perplexed me. Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has called an emergency meeting planned for Friday to discuss the price drop of oil while demand is falling. One of the chairmen said, the obvious response is to slow daily oil production, but they are looking to reach an agreement for a plan with more longevity. The price of oil is down by half since July, and oil prices settled at 79.89 a barrel on Tuesday, which is near the 14-month low it reached last week. Many independent experts believe the global consumption of oil will fall this year, the first time since 1993.

We have witnessed the oil prices fall sharply within the last few weeks, but the inquiry that must be made is why does the price fluctuate so heavily? The same methods are used to extract the oil and it is the same companies selling it. Ok, economics lesson: high supply + low demand = low price, low supply + high demand = high price. Experts also stated that it is paramount that they select an agreeable price, because pricing the oil too high will continue to reduce the demand by contributing to a global recession. OPEC is responsible for 40% of the worlds oil exports and they suspect that it will be difficult to get all of its members to abide by price cuts.

This problem can be alleviated by whomever the supplier is at the top if they stop trying to exaggerate their profit. Lets speculate that for the last 10 years Oil Company A has been extracting and supplying oil, but for the last 5 years A's clients have been increasing the amount of oil they purchase. Do you charge your client more money because they are buying more oil from you, usually its the opposite, the more you buy the better the deal. Sheer common sense will say that there is no shortage if OPEC is worried about demand declining, because if their supply was diminishing then they would welcome lower demand to keep them running longer. So why do they keep lifting the price? Granted, in the world there is always inflation but the rapid pace at which they were increasing was not consistent with the rest of the world. It was inevitable for their greed to devour them. If they never would have "gassed" (double entendre) the price up then there probably would not be such a clamoring for alternate forms of energy or a strong focus in another direction and they could have cruised along until, who knows, 2043.

In this world it is funny how everything balances out. The nerd eventually becomes the cool guy, just like the greedy soon become the needy. We shall see what happens, hopefully gas will remain consistent and reasonable. I just found this story highly riveting, the fact that they are worried about the oil prices being at the level where it probably should have been anyway. Less profit for the ones who have more than they can spend, i know, i've received the emails of the rich oil execs and their preposterous as well as hyperbolic lifestyles.

A House is not a Home...if nobody buys it

Florida's housing market is diving aimlessly and who knows where it will end. This is information via Forbes.com writer, Matt Woolsey (I just like that name so I had to chivy it in here). I am not in writing this to keep everyone in the mental doldrums but i have people in FL and I thought this was interesting and you will see why later. Housing prices in Miami dropped by 20%, Tampa 18%, and Orlando 17% in the past year according the National Association of Realtors.

I am aware of the housing conundrum across the nation and I chose Florida for a reason, aside from the truth that I found this article. I am not casting that off (trust me i live in Michigan), but approximately a year and a half ago I remember my dad enlightening me on how frivolously they were building homes in Florida, and that is not the case in states like MI or OH. At the time there was an excess of houses compared to the people buying. He talked about how a lot of construction companies were slowing production if not ceasing plans in multiple areas. This article reminds me that nothing happens in a vacuum and this is something that has certainly been on the way for a while, especially when you couple that with the dire economic straits. But how much expansion or growth did these companies in Florida prognosticate? I percieve that some of this could have been alleviated by the braintrust of construction companies and housing agencies. Too often we wait until a problem arises before we decide to fix it. Not to mention that we have to hold these decision makers accountable for the decisions that they make. I do not know what is taking place at the top of the aforementioned organizations but I hope that whomever the operating officer may be, they are being held accountable. On the other hand i don't like to dwell on the past, once it happens, its done. Now there needs to be an effort to make progress, and hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and not make the same one next time.

I am no economic or housing savant, but I do operate the Sofa which is poised to take over sooner before later.

Joe Budden- Star Inside of Me

I wasn't going to put this up, however i was urged to do so. This is a rendition from one of my most enamored music artists, Joe Budden. The song is called "Star Inside of Me". The cinematography was done by a stellar individual as well by the name of Rik Cordero (shout out to my cousin MIKE and 10th Planet Productions). Its a song that has a lot of meaning and a cool concept behind it, one that i presume people need to hear. Besides this guy is essentially the other Wallo, him and I share quite a bit of ideas and thoughts. I contend that more encouraging messages need to be brought to the forefront and im going to assist in that endeavor. Everything in hip hop isn't the greatest but some things are for universal ears and everyone should hear it. The regulars know how we do it on the sofa.

Pop Champagne like we Won a Championship Game

-I know what it says across the picture- +This picture is from last night though+

But they didn't win a championship game. The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels last night in the first round of the MLB playoffs, after the game they were popping champagne corks and wearing goggles like the rings were sitting on the table and ready to be handed out. Now the Rays did the same thing after beating the Chicago White Sox a day earlier.

The goal of the MLB baseball season is to win the pennant (championship) not to just get in the playoffs or win the first round. Not only am i disturbed by their actions but i am unsettled by the fact that there was champagne sitting there for them to pop. Which notes to me that someone anticipated a series win and prepped the room. Just so that everything is clear I want everyone to know that you don't get any team rewards for advancing in the first round. Maybe some players have a clause in their contract to get more money when they reach a certain plateau like 30 homeruns or 100 Runs Batted In, but that is no team accomplishment and you wouldn't be popping the corks because you are getting more money. For the Record no team has advanced to the World Series yet. A coalition needs to be created to stop the senseless use of champagne, Im going to spearhead this thing and im counting on my friends to jump in any minute, right guys? {Remember when KT yelled out the window in Goddard to that guy and expected us to help him if the guy came upstairs}. Im done, im going to a place where there are no mosquitoes!

O.J.'s Requiem

Alright Orenthal James is not dead but his brain certainly is. I deemed his latest story mundane because most people just consider O.J. a lost cause as I do, but then i read THIS...he had an acquittal party planned. I don't know if he is that pompous or if he is that dense. If you are presently unaware O.J. was convicted on armed robbery and kidnapping and could face up to life in prison. But that's not what im on right now. For a sixty something year old man he is the most mentally inept senior citizen i have ever had the opportunity to hear of. Its so ironic to me because i look at people in the 60's range as generally experienced if not exceedingly wise. But he clearly has missed his portion of wisdom (hopefully i can get his portion so that i can have double).

The story states that Thomas Riccio, an associate of Simpson, invited a couple of respectable individuals to an undisclosed location during an in studio interview as the trial was coming to a close. Phil Ramos, a Las Vegas police officer who has given expert commentary and attended the trial said "He's been predicting a hung jury". I believe the saying is counting your chickens before they hatch. Wouldn't that alone bring you bad karma. I think it is important for everyone to learn from their situations whether they are good or bad. When it is good you say "what did i do to make this happen" and when its bad "what can i do so this wont happen again". It is evident that there was nobody in O.J.'s life to "ground" him, I know that people throw that phrase around often for celebs but it fits right here. His mentality allowed him to continue to put himself in these positions, and he didn't bring his Perspective Glasses to the party, which would have advised him to stay as far away from the legal system as possible. He has to know that their are plenty of folks that want to devour you. Anyhow I just had to get that out of my system, I want everyone to get wisdom, cause i love yall.

Who Can You Help Today?

Can I get my MS on? Motivational speaking. Before I delve into this, a lady at Panera Bread ask me if I was a psychiatrist this week. I responded and said in a way "yes". However I urge everyone to ponder for a moment; who can i help today? Not in a random way either, I want you to think about your talents and what you are good at and offer them to a friend or a family member. People need to be outlets, resources, or avenues for other people and their talents if they can help them. There are so many talented individuals that never get to come out of the water for air. I understand that some people are not motivated but most people want to do productive things they just don't know the path to tread.

I usually don't like talking about myself but here we go. I think about myself and I reflect on how good it felt to help someone else excel and/or proceed. I have assisted with biographies, press releases, album reviews, company profiles, and etc. My principle for doing so was just to help advance whomever I was helping, understanding that we are more productive as a unit then we are individually. And suppose they advance a great deal in their field and they need more writing work, then they said I know the perfect person, subsequently I bring someone along when i need help and the web of excellence just keeps expanding along with your resources. We should all be familiar with the phrase "there is strength in numbers", we need to execute that. Here is a harbinger for what is blossoming in my life (you guys get the exclusive): I was trying to work on my logo for my company and I was having a tumultuous time, one day i abruptly realized my brother is extremely artistic and i have a friend that does graphic design such as web pages and logos. Then it occurred to me that i have another friend who has his own branding company and has created logos for others as well. Aside from them i have a host of close friends/family that have an excess of talent. I easily have enough around me to start an empire and its the same way for a lot of us we just don't realize it or take advantage of it.

So my behest today is to take the initiative and offer help to your fellow man and start the web of excellence. If you read this blog post then it was written for you specifically. "One man dreamt of becoming something while the other stayed awake and became"

Its all mental: Instru, Funda, Detri

Once upon a time there was a guy, a guy that worked for Southwest Airlines, a guy that worked for Southwest Airlines and smuggled cocaine aboard 388 flights. The man was a baggage handler down in Houston, and he moved the "work" routinely from Houston to Baltimore. Much to the authorities chagrin, he has been doing this since 2001, *for the record this is 2008. He has recently been caught and detained and is facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years, however he could succumb to a life sentence. The story alluded to the idea that he was not caught with cocaine on him, however he was discovered coming off of a flight with $79,122 on his person.

A couple of bullet points here: How bad does this look for Southwest/Airport security? In fairness I read that a lot of employees don't go through the same rigors that mundane traveling patrons undergo. The ensuing point is, why didn't he stop in 2004, 2005, or 2006? If he has enough gwap (money) to walk around with eighty G's then he is clearly doing it for the thrill of the chase. But some would simply call him greedy. Getting caught is an issue, but the larger issue is the mentality that many people possess. Let's talk strategy for a moment. Follow this example: you have an individual from an impoverished background with little options and they decide to traffic illegal substances and in the course of a year they progress from O's to Keys (ounce to a Kilo, don't ask what you are thinking) and now they are playing with heavy paper or multiple G's like this man was. Usually the authorities don't care to catch nor do they look for the small time guys. So why wouldn't this person get out the (drug) game once they get their finances together, since they were fortunate enough to make it this far and cover that money in legal money i.e. a business or something. Good question right? Like Jay-z said "said that i would stop before i even started, when i got to one brick then the game i will depart with, got to one brick then i looked to the sky like, sorry God i lied but give me one more try". The irony of selling drugs is that it's sort of like using them, its an addiction.

So I shake my head at this whole story but in large part due to the mentality. I think the quality of one's life depends on their mentality, you can be the pioneer of a fortune 500 company, lose it, and have your world crumble. Or you can build it, lose it, and say "its nothing" I'll do it again because I built it and i can build it again. Just a difference of mentality. However back to the morals, do the right thing like Spike Lee said.

Palin lost in Question?

I usually don't dabble in political fodder and/or banter, but this startled me when I saw it. Everyone has a portrait in their mind of what leadership looks, sounds and feels like, it may not be the exact same across the board but there is a general consensus. I also understand that there are different leadership style but...Palin does not look like it. During this question she looks like an aggressive deer in the headlights, as if to say I'm lost but I'm going to bully my way out of this. Initially I curbed my thoughts and wasn't going to say anything, however I then gathered my reality and said this woman is contending for second in command, for the whole nation. Not acceptable. I said maybe she didn't quite grasp the question but then the interviewer clarified and restated, and her answer was still bogus. Please ignore Diddy, he has money, free time, and an understanding that he can say what he wants to say. The REAL interview begins at around 0:19 and you can shut it off once that interrogation is over. I have never spoken to to McCain but I am merely curious to see what strategy is. I'm sure the republican delegates are intelligent individuals, but they are not doing an effective job of making the public see what it is they saw in Palin. Anyhow check it out.

Millen is chased out of the Lions Den

The Detroit Lions have unseated longtime president and GM Matt Millen. Sports enthusiast are aware that this was part of the vestige from William Ford Jr.'s comments on (i think) Monday. Millen has held the position since 2001, however to the disdain of many fans for the last few years. At this junction it is unclear if Millen begrudgingly left or if his term was truncated by father Ford. Nonetheless three weeks into the 2008-2009 NFL season he is gone (or exiled). The Lions are a NFL worst 31-84 across Millen's tenure.

I will state this disclaimer first: I do not follow the Lions like most people in Detroit, however i follow every team if that makes sense. I cannot say with 100% certainty that Millen was the exact cause of the downtrodden franchise. Some of his moves are obviously bad but i don't know if they were that egregious. For instance, Lions have had, i believe, four coaches in his tenure (Marinelli, Mornhinweg, Mariucci, Jauron), none of them were bad coaches though. Apparently Millen has an affinity for the letter M, but i digress, Marinelli who is currently seated as head coach came from a relatively prosperous team in Tampa Bay who won the Superbowl in 03. The pillar of that team was its defense, especially the defensive line (Sapp, Simien-Rice, McFarland) and guess what Marinelli was the defensive line coach. Mariucci, took the 49ers to multiple playoff appearances, albeit never reaching the Superbowl. The height of his success was the NFC Championship game. Jauron was mildly successful with the Chicago Bears, even though i think he only took them to the playoffs once in a short stint, but he really doesn't count because he was just a temporary replacement. Mornhinweg was supposed to be from this transcendent line of NFL coaching glory, the Mike Holmgren lineage, so i can't really fault him for trying that out either. Now Mornhinweg is the Offensive coordinator at Philly, and us football fans know their offense gets busy! So with the coaches i don't see any deplorable decisions but i have never worked for an NFL franchise and don't know the undercurrent of the business.

Im not in the Detroit Lions War Room on draft day when they select their draft picks but the common notion is that he is largely responsible for those too, so i will go with that theory. The first blunder was Joey Harrington, who was highly successful in college at Oregon, led them to a Fiesta Bowl win (which is pretty impressive) and Pac-10 champs, the boy looked good. I won't go through every draft pick, because most of them are solid, but the two draft picks that people harp on are Charles Rogers and Mike Williams. Anyone who watched Michigan St. football has to lay off Millen on this pick, Charles was easily one of the best college receivers of his decade. He won the Fred Biletnikoff award for the best receiver in the NATION that year, he broke MSU's record for touchdowns in a career and receiving yards in a game with 270. In fact the Lions would have been silly to pass on him. Mike Williams was a beast at USC as well, in fact i remember vividly calling my dad while i was at work and he was in the car with uncle Roy and i was excited for the Lions because they just drafted Mike Williams. As a freshman Williams set a Pac-10 freshman record with 14 touchdowns and 1,265 yards (18 years old). The next year he had 16 touchdowns, they only played 13 games, and he amassed 1,314 yards. The only thing incredulous about him was that he had to sit out of football that one year because he tried to follow Maurice Clarett who challenged the NFL's rule to be eligible for the draft (3 years removed from high school or age 21) who lost that decision. Both receivers are currently unemployed, i actually feel bad for them for being selected by the Lions. The rest of the draft selections are typical for what they are.

However personally i think the franchise is just cursed. Matter of fact look it up, THE CURSE OF BOBBY LAYNE. I understand that there is no excuse for the futility the organization has displayed, especially in proportion to the fan support. But honestly, i don't think it was Millen's fault, whom ever was in his position was going to have to succumb to the curse. Or maybe he was part of the curse. I also understand that as a business you have to what you can to save face with your customers (or the fans), because if you lose the fan base then you will lose out as well, simple business concept, i think. However the curse should be over after this season, so perhaps the Lions will begin to turn it around.

Google rescinds Abortion stance

Google has reformed their advertising protocol concerning the word "abortion". Recently a lawsuit was filed against Google by a Christian institute (British) which was refused the opportunity to take out ads that used the word "abortion". The Christian institute is assuredly against abortion wanted to advertise because the House of Commons was considering a bill that dealt with the topic of abortion.

The inconsistency was apparent as Google would sell ads to secular groups or even doctors who advertised using the magic word. Google of course has standards and protocol for advertising practices, it would not allow ads for products derived from endangered species or ads that promoted violence, and in the past it would not sell the keyword to religious groups. However since the rift, the Christian Institute and Google have reached a settlement and Google has amended their policy. A spokesperson for Google said "We build out our policies based upon local customs and business practices and, as any sensible business would do, review them from time to time to make sure they are up to date and current,”. Well i suppose it was time for an update. The terms of course were not conveyed in the article but Google immediately began running ads linked to abortion from religious groups that were deemed to be factual, and not graphical or emotional ads.

How did Google think this was going to slide, especially if you let everyone else use the word. I know the subject is polarizing but every coin has two sides and you have to play fair. Regardless of your ideology on abortion it's good to see that the companies came to an amiable resolution. And on an even better note Google essentially admitted they were in the wrong, not often that you get apologies from big business. Perhaps there is hope after all.

Bush won't let Ike beat T...

George Bush toured the Texas region in a brief appearance to address the hurricane dilemma, of course he did a fly over first. This was a two and a half hour trip and his third trip to the region in two weeks. Apparently Bush felt compelled enough to take care of his home state of Texas and display a level of concern. The government is already allotting food and resources to the afflicted so i suppose this second test has prompted a more efficient response. Some may perceive Bush to be responding on a biased basis but I will take it for face value.

I was encouraged to also read that they were activating a plan to reimburse displaced Texans for lodging. Bush also urged the people to stay away until the authorities advised them to come back. The article insinuated that many were trying to come back already to what was described as unsafe conditions, but i suppose many of the people were concerned about the compounding cost of their lodging and eating expenses. I've never been through any natural disaster of this magnitude but i would say you gotta wait until they deem it safe. Yesterday i heard a report that some of the regions like Galveston may not have power for up to two weeks. I hope progress is expedited and the people can resume living. We shall see.

Lupe Fiasco- Coulda been

This is kinda overdue but this is a mixtape track from one of my twin favorites, Lupe Fiasco (the other is Joe Budden) called "Coulda Been". When you're going through life and things don't always go the way you planned them just think of what it coulda been. My mantra is "I thought i was messed up with no shoes, until i met a brotha with no feet". This is just a little food for thought or mind wine to help you in your prime time. My goal is just to help people gain a little perspective. What can i say, you know im always here to help. Enjoy.

Hollywood's Offspring

I was just thumbing through the internet, as if it were a book, however i caught a headline that showcased Jessica Alba and her new offspring. Usually i don't dabble in the chaotic celebrity realm but this made me pensive and i thought of all the other celebs like Halle Berry (most recently) who show off their offspring. I am aware that magazines capitalize on the public's insatiable and voracious celebrity desire but what does an offspring (you like how i keep using that word) have to do with anything. Most haven't even developed distinct features yet.

To my understanding it has reached the threshold where now celebs are willing to submit photos to keep the malicious camera totters away. But how did we get here, was it always like this? People have been creating offspring for years and it just doesn't seem like the fiasco was apparent years ago, perhaps with technology expands availability. My conjecture is that 'loids have intentionally and covertly created a new desire among society. In the world of Hollywood redundancy the 'loids have created a new demand (if my memory serves me correctly about the past)! They make up "games" that people can play along with. For instance when they started naming couples e.g. Brangelina, everyone can try to make the best name. Now the game i suppose is who has the best looking offspring (lol). But with each game they create it allows everyone to play along. TMZ and OK magazine are XBOX for celebrity culture. Think about that and get back with me.

Oh, and thank you for bearing with my selfish desire to use the word, offspring. P.S. I bet you don't know whose baby i used for this picture. Shame on you if you do, then this post was just for you!

Ocho Cinco es Loco?

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver formerly known Chad Johnson officially changed his name earlier in the week to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco. The NFL officially recognizes the name change and the process is complete. Despite where you stand on the personality that is Ocho Cinco, remember he is in the entertainment business.

It appears that most media pundits are now tired of him and this is the straw that breaks the camels back. They say he is constantly in the news and is always seeking attention, and those allegations may or may not have credibility depending on your perception. But the media has handled him inappropriately and often misrepresented him. I have met plenty of Chad's but the media is apparently just being introduced. Often times he is toying with the media because they come to him for sound bites and he knows it just as well as everyone else, but the error is when they take him seriously. He is Shaq but ten times as sarcastic, and if this makes any sense he is serious about playing. The other portion of this is the notion that the media is tired of him, but have they not realized that they keep coming to him and they are in control of the airwaves. Therefore i don't believe them because if they were really perturbed by him then they wouldn't seek him out as often as they do.

Bottom line is that he is the entertainment business and really everything that he has done (except maybe one thing) is harmless. The main is totally innocuous. So if the man wants to change his name...let him, if he wants to talk about hitting his quarterback in the knee...let him, if he wants to talk about being the Charles Haley pool champ and beating Mike Phelps...LET HIM. Oh and by the way he is easily one of the top 5 receivers in the NFL.

Culture Shot

Yesterday Jacksonville Jaguars DE, Richard Collier was shot near downtown Jacksonville and was reported to have life threatening injuries. He was sitting in a car with another former football player waiting for a lady to come out of her apartment. The shooting reportedly happened around 2:45 a.m. in an upper-middle class neighborhood.

It seems that lately more and more sports players have been getting attacked. Just earlier this summer Raiders WR Javon Walker was abducted and beaten unconscious in Vegas as he was simultaneously robbed. Apparently they tracked him to his hotel room. I won't detail everybody but look at Eddie Curry, Antoine Walker, Sean Taylor, Sebastian Telfair and Darrent Williams as well. I was just talking about this type of thing with Record and it just so happens that i saw this report. The portentous obstacle that we need to hurdle is the mindset that alot of victims as well as attackers have. I read a comment on one of the boards that said "that's what these guys get... where im from you can't wear it if you can't keep it, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN". A lot of people have this mentality. Despite whoever you may think you may be and your status, there are folks out there that are going to "try you" for it. They don't care who you are. Im not saying that any of these athletes are in the wrong places or anything like that because that's not the case. But i think it would behoove you to know how the goons think. There is also two sides to every coin, that admiration you get for having the luxuries of life is great but those things can get you the same amount of envy or ill-will. There is a level of responsibility and awareness you need to have when you are drawing a little more attention to yourself.

I think it is unfortunate just as many people do, but you have to understand the game if you want to play it. I also understand that every situation is different but overall I just hope that these violent acts calm down but i guess we will have to wait to see.

Work Appropriate Behavior

Alright, im going to need a some feedback to make sure i am not crazy. At my workplace there is a relatively new individual who has been there for maybe 2 or 3 months. Relatively hard working guy (i say that because he works two jobs). However it has come to some of his co-workers attention that he shaves in the bathroom at the job. Now there is a public mens restroom but there is also an individual restroom which is the one he uses. This has not been discovered once but twice. My co-worker recalls "he came to work shaggy and i saw him later in the day and he was groomed up". Now what i believe to be the worst part of this fiasco is that there are traces of hair after he leaves the restroom, granted it may be slight but...(shaking head)

When i first heard this my reaction was of pure and plenary disbelief. I said audibly " What is he THINKING?". This is not a complete grooming facility, there are no showers coupled with personal lockers! Am I crazy or do people do this at work. I thought that this was something you took care of at home. Do people do this? I think that i am going to have to sit down with this guy and have some dialogue because i think he is just mistaken.

Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

This saturday is the beginning of the college football season, and with my passion exuding out of my skin i think its time to peruse the college football landscape. I told Hump i would be unbiased so i'll try to leave my LSU affections out of this. Here are some focal points before we kick off.

The Big 12 might be the most explosive conference this year. Look at the offenses, Texas still has Colt McCoy, Texas Tech still has Graham Harrell and the best receiver in the land Mike Crabtree, Oklahoma-still got it, even Mizzou brings back Chase Daniels, and Coach's son Cody Hawkins wasn't too bad slanging the rock at Colorado either. But that begs the question are these guys going to play any defense in that conference, and we also know how important it is to have a running game regardless of how good you throw the pill. The team i see closes to the pin is Texas, with new defense coordinator Will Muschamp from Auburn they're going to get more out of their defenders than they have in the past, i guarantee it and im sure they have a running game. Im sure Oklahoma is going to shoot themselves in the foot once again, i just know it. Side note: Nebraska has LSU's former defensive coordinator Bo Pelini and that should help them a little bit. But watch out for Crabtree and the gang, they remind me of Pitt in 03-04 when Fitzgerald was there but with a better quarterback.

Watch the evolution of the Big Ten and enjoy it. Much has been made of R.Rodriguez going to Michigan and bringing that wide open offense in his suitcase. Although much of the offense is gone the majority of the defense is returning and i really like that corner Donovan Warren. Progress is a slow process and we'll see what happens in Ann Arbor, they need some big wins because they've only had about one in the last five years. Illinois and Ron Zook were successful last season bringing more than "3 yards and a cloud of dust" and Ohio State is still the headliner of the conference and they used some of that spread offense pretty effectively. Chris Wells is a problem! And the receiving core has another year under their belt so the team should be even better than they were last year. So teams are starting to open it up in the Big 11. I really like where the Spartans are headed, coach Dantonio has the Spartans on the cusp of some good things, they just have to learn how to finish games and if they can do that then they should be able to make some real noise in the Big Ten. Wisconsin will continue to hang around and probably pull one of the top 3 spots in the conference once again.

The Pac-10 SHOULD be a rout, USC shouldn't lose to another Stanford and actually the defense on that team might be better than the offense with Ray Maualuga and Cary Harris holdin it down. Pete Carroll makes the best adjustments so they should be able navigate the Pac-10 but the trick is getting past Ohio State Sep.13, that should be the game of the year by the way. Oregon will not be as effective but im sure they have some talent cause they can get recruits off their jerseys alone. The only sleeper i see is Arizona State with Rudy Carpenter at the helm throwing to Mike Jones who had 10 touchdowns last year. Bottom line: the Pac-10 really isn't deep at all.

(Hump, Sutton, KT, and Finney don't judge me) The most uncertain conference will probably be the SEC. Everyone has fallen in love with Georgia and Knowshon Moreno, but they are going to have to try to clip the Gators in back to back years and they also have to travel to LSU and Auburn, and don't forget Tenn got them last year as well. This will be a good race even up to the last week. I think everyone needs to focus on Florida in this conference, with Tebow, Harvin, Rainey, and Moody they have multiple playmakers. The trick is whether that defense line can beef up and get stronger and not get blown off the ball against heavy rushing teams (but the defense line is quick).Im not sure they are quite flying under the radar but they certainly aren't getting all the attention. LSU has a huge question mark at quarterback after kicking Perrilloux off the team, Les Miles is creative and will come up with ways to use his playmakers but that's if the quarterback can get them the ball. And do not be misled by the absence of Dorsey, the defense is still ferocious and efficient (TRUST ME on this one, please). As much as it pains me to say this watch out for Ala...Ala... hold on... watch out for Alabama. Saban is a very efficient coach and will get a lot out of his team whether they have talent or not and but i think they just might e.g. Julio Jones.

The Big East is going to be fun but it won't be much suspense, Rutgers won't be as good without Ray Rice and Louisville really can't be taken seriously. Head of the class should be West Virginia with Pat White and Steve Slaton's replacement, Noel Divine. But im amazed at how quickly South Florida's program is rising and churning out athletes because they play FAST and DE George Selvie gets busy. And im not looking for UConn at all, sorry.

The ACC is the home of my cousin team the Clemson Tigers who i beg and implore to take the next step and win this conference, they have been ringing the doorbell long enough its time to bust in. They have dual RB's James Davis and C.J. Spiller with a decent quarterback in Cullen Harper, oh and don't forget wideout AK 80 (Aaron Kelly). The defense is solid when they want to be with Hamlin and Clemons anchoring the secondary. If they don't win im sure Tommy Bowden is outta there. Miami can't be the U yet especially when you have to suspend 7 players for the opener. FSU might get back on track but i just don't believe in Drew Weatherford under center, but i know papa Bowden can coach. Virginia Tech might have something to say especially if they use sophomore QB Tyrod Taylor along with their main stay starter Sean Glennon.

Sorry no C-USA or MAC talk. But the season is going to be unpredictable again. Now that all the TV exposure for everybody has spread out the recruiting battles, the talent is all over the place once again. I say USC and Texas will probably end the season in a 05-06 rematch for the national championship game. My heisman prediction is that it will land with a certain running back in the state of Ohio. Now that i am through being objective i can say LSU is the best team in the land until somebody takes the title from us, the Bayou Bengals are back and we'll make it exciting for everybody once again, so tune in on Saturdays usually on CBS at around 2:30 or 5:30.

Thanks for Your Support?

I recently read an article about whether or not the overt support of Obama from the hip hop community was actually going to hurt his quest for the presidency. Artists such as Jay-z, Nas, Ludacris, Kanye West and a host of others were mentioned. The underlying focus of the report was on how comments from the artists can be attached to Obama similarly to "Crab In a Barrel Wright." But the piece also took a different angle and subtly begged the question, is it wrong that Obama does not transparently support hip-hop?
Musician Scarface insisted that it may be best right now for artists to support Obama quietly. Citing Luda's mixtape reference to McCain and Clinton he urged the people to look at how far that got blown out of proportion - and that was on a mixtape! South Carolina mixtape master Chuck T took a totally different perspective on the potential president, calling Obama a traitor and says that he has no plans to vote for him. His explanation was because Obama keeps turning his back on everyone that he knows, i.e. Wright, Ludacris, and Bernie Mac. He pointed out that Obama invited Bernie Mac to the roast knowing completely well who he was, suggesting that the two already had a relationship.

America appears to have a perspective issue as it clearly makes no sense to attach another man's words to someone else, only you can speak for you. I perceive that a lot of media strictly looks to separate and create dissension among a cohesive group. And if you think about it this way, perhaps Ludacris was his cousin, would they want Obama to denounce his relationship with a family member because of something the guy said (and black folk know they all cousins)? As a leader it is important to understand the importance of helping people, it would be wisest for any leader to unite as many people as he can and accept their support graciously, then and only then can you sit down and dialogue about the differences in perspectives and hopefully someone is enlightened because of that. If you straight cut away from them then what good does that do any of the parties involved.

America is an extremely polarizing culture and im aware that some people will say that's just the way it is. But here on the sofa that's not how we operate, we don't just accept the status quo. As a matter of fact this is about Obama and he is fundamentally a symbol of change. As far as the artists impact if any on the campaign, the jury is still out.

That's just my interpretation of the situation.

One for W. and the Gang

The woman LinkedIn with al-Qaeda on the FBI's most wanted list was caught just a few days ago, although not without a major blunder. AAfia Siddiqui was apparently spotted outside of a government compound in Afghanistan. After being questioned, the officials ensued to search her bag. To their surprise they found numerous documents describing the creation of explosives along with various descriptions of landmarks in the United States including one of New York city, she was also in possession of substances contained in glass bottles and jars. Why she was carrying all this around with her i do not know, but i am glad she was on this particular day.

Here is the perplexing plot. Siddiqui was detained in a government building in what is described as a meeting room behind a curtain. FBI special agents, U.S. Warrant officer, and an Army Captain would all later enter the room together unaware that the highly coveted fugitive was behind the curtain. The army captain laid his U.S. issued M-4 assault rifle on the floor, you guessed it near the curtain. The following scene has Siddiqui holding the rifle pointed at the captain and yelling something negative. Army Captain lunges forward to knock away the rifle shots were fired, nobody was hit. The warrant officer revealed his 9mm handgun and blessed Siddiqui with a couple of rounds although reports indicate she was only hit once. Although she was hit she still wasn't going out without a fight, she fought and kicked as the officials tried to subdue her, eventually detained and lost consciousness Siddiqui was taken to receive medical treatment.

She is now SECURELY detained and faces multiple charges. Right now though, still innocent until proven guilty. 1 for W and the team, well that depends on how you feel about the government. But I have to ask this before i grab my coat and hat, why didn't they tell them that she was behind that curtain and extremely available to use weaponry, with both hands.

Im so Sneaky

This is something I saw a while ago. It touches on the sneaker culture a little bit and that is an aspect of life that i am very passionate about. I figured i could share some of my soul with people through these passionate individuals. The video is about 14mins. take a look if you have time. Its slightly more informative than you think. "Me collecting sneakers is a manifestion of my love for art".

What we Drinking Tonight!?

There is a motion from approximately 100 college presidents to lower the drinking age back to 18. This includes universities such as Duke, Morehouse, Ohio State, and Dartmouth. Presidents generally cited reasons of inconsistency from the student body as far as following the law, they understand that students commonly evade the law and apparently it is a cumbersome rule for them to enforce. This motion has been building steam for about a year. The presidents also used the rhetoric of "too young to drink, but old enough to fight for your country".

However every president has not jumped on board, Donna Shalala, president of the "U" (Miami Univ.) remembers when the drinking age was 18 and she apparently thinks progress has been made. Shalala was also on president Clinton's staff as the secretary of health as well. Also MAAD (no surprise here) spoke up as ardent proponents against the lowering of the drinking age, insisting that universities are taking a back door and avoiding the problem. Also insinuating that lowering the age would alleviate them of the onus of policing their campuses for underage drinking and not help make campuses a safer place.

I do not know if lowering the age would quell any problems around college campuses. However, I do know that it does create two different populations and with everyone amalgamated it is extremely tough to police everyone differently. If universities want to help then perhaps they just have to be a little more animate about enforcing their rules. Its not something that can totally be resolved without intruding on the privacy of the students. It should be interesting to see how this one plays out. Alcohol is overrated anyway, they need to make illegal to drink juice until you twenty one, then everyone will get on the healthy bandwagon trying to sneak orange juice into the dorms. That's really how you solve the problem!

Age ain't nothing but a Number

Just when i was full of zeal about the Olympics they had to give me some controversial news. The news that i am referring to cites the women's Chinese gymnastics team with underage competitors. Some report has one of the gymnast at age 13, the minimum age required to compete is 16. Before this was even an issue i queried in my head, "man why these Chinese girls look so little". And now i have my answer. Just nine months before the Oly's (that's what im callin em, O-lees) the Chinese government's news agency reported He Kexin was 13. Of course Chinese delegates refuted the claim. Sorry China im going with my gut on this one.

China has gone through a lot for these Oly's, after reading reports and listening to accounts of what took place before these games it is clear that China has placed a large amount of pressure on it's athletes to have great showings. China appears to view these games as a chance to show the world how high on the totem pole they really are. That was evident from the opening ceremony, which was stand out material. Journalistic reports have outlined the burden that some of the Chinese gymnasts carry as they are implored to do well and bring back GOLD medals. Im not insinuating that this is the reason they have gone to what i believe to be dubious measures to inch closer to gold, but i will say that it is not a stretch. For instance America values the Oly's but i don't know if we use it to define us as a nation, we just take it for granted that our athletes will do well and nobody is extremely overjoyed when we win because we're supposed to--aside from Phelps who is growing gills day by day.

As brought to my attention by Autumn Jones, mumbling has been going on about China's attempt to mask a lot of things for the Oly's. But that is just part of the process, when the games were in Atlanta efforts were made to remove unwanted street dwellers among other things and present the best possible image. I know China has infamous places like Tiennamen Square which seems to be revered now despite the many executions that took place there. However when any guests comes to your home you want to clean up a bit.

Let's enjoy the Oly's and take it all in. If the ladies used gymnasts slightly below the age suggestion, hey what can you do. We'll just know the next time not to trust them with anything, like i don't know....a WMD.

The World is Ours

The Olympics are the greatest spectacle on earth! Watching the numerous nations assemble together in one location is humbling. Frankly, everybody in the world is so beautiful. Im real zealous right now, looking at the pride all of these nations have for their respective homelands. An event like this is truly magnificent and urges us to realize how small of a world portion we sample everyday. I love these people!

I need to develop a broader palette of friends. Im about to get a correspondent or a friend in 15 countries so i can keep tabs on the pulse of the world, or at least im going to try. I suggest we all make an effort to expand our circles and step out of our comfort zones. Im trying to learn spanish by the way and whoever wants to help me do it let me know, perhaps thats why i had a dream last night that i was buying Pimsleurs Spanish program. Lets step our world game up.

God is love
Rev Run

Naw im just clowning- PEACE, literally and figuratively.

Hotmail is China's friend

Small piece of information here, Microsoft is not letting potential email users utilize the word "tibet" in their email address. Microsoft insist that this barricade is in existence to prevent users from imitating financial institutions and employ "phishing schemes" or impersonations of that nature. In this case a spokeswoman from Microsoft commented that there is a bank in Florida, TIB Bank and that is why names with "tib" are not accepted.

Now the cynicism begins, just as the Olympics are on schedule to begin tomorrow (unofficially). With China looking to chivy away from all inquiries about their treatment of the Tibetans its awkward timing that this would surface now. Especially when you consider the amount of money the Chinese have lent the American economy (hundreds of billions of dollars), we almost have no money. You wonder why everything says made in China and although many complain we still send everything over to China to be produced, its not only for the cheap labor (I think im going to embark on that dialogue another day). Anyhow its not as if someone with the word "tibet" in their hotmail address is a threat to the freedom of all nationalities everywhere. Maybe Microsoft is being honest but i find this whole thing ironic. Im just imparting the little information i have, from all angles.

Some Men's Fashion Commentary

This post is for the guys, (sorry ladies, but you may want to check it out for your man) I came across 8 Men's Fashion Mistakes to Avoid. Since im an exceptionally yet unconventionally dapper individual, I "Wallo the Fresh Doctor", the fashion savant, have taken initiative to add my commentary to their suggestions. Check out these faux pas and make sure you're not perpetuating these errors.

1. Socks with Sandals- This should really go without saying, because really the idea of sandals is to give your feet a little liberation to indulge in the same air quality that the rest of your skin gets. Socks with sandals is a travesty through and through. By the way do not exacerbate the situation and wear socks with thong sandals.

2. Novelty Ties, Boxers, Shirts etc.- Symbols such as smiley faces, lobsters, or triceratops should not checker your clothing articles. If nothing else its redundant and counter-artistic. Not to mention it dates your clothes because its hard not to notice that pattern every time you wear it.

3. Blaring Designer Labels- This is one that the urban constituents struggle with...this will help you in your efforts to endorse or billboard your allegiance to the label, but then again why would you want to do that if you don't have any stock in the company. Bottom line it looks like your trying too hard and its gaudy.

4. Backpacks at the Office- I don't have much of a quarrel with this because im going to make backpacks cool. But with a suit and/or office attire it just looks like your going hiking... but only to the 28th floor.

5. Chunky Shoes- Now this really applies to men and women, just because you have a larger sole doesn't mean you have more support. But for your shoes gentlemen nix the square toe approach, although in the D(etroit) this memo probably wont make it to the gator pimps.

6. Shiny or Glittery Shirts and Suits- You shouldn't even have any of these in your closet because that's just wrong. If you're not on dancing with the stars save the glitter for the 5th grade art class.

7. Clothes that are too loose fitting- Now, THEY said unless you're a hip hop artist (I was offended too, just playing!) but really it doesn't do much for anybody outside of the nuns.

8. Unflattering Colors- You have to put your colors in the game subtly, for instance don't get the all lime green shirt, get the black shirt that has some lime green in it. Really you need a plan when you're breaking the special colors out, don't wing it.
You're welcome, YOU'RE ALL WELCOME!
